NGL Centennial: Centennial All-Star Team

April 23, 2014 at 02:29AM View BBCode

Who are the best players in the first 100 years of the NGL? Here's the best of our Hall of Fame:

C: [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9700548]Lou Jackson, BAL/LAN[/url]

Tough call here between Jackson and Claud Schultz, who had a longer career and won 4 WS rings to Jackson's one. Jackson won 2 MVPs and had higher slash numbers.

1B: [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7562782]Buck Marshall, TEX/FLA[/url]

Chris Hobbs was also great, but Marshall has the highest career OPS in league history.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7563170]2B: Jerry Casey, ARI/FLA/BAL[/url]

Lots of secondbasemen to choose from, but Casey had power and speed (#4 all-time in homers and had two 30/30 seasons) and a great glove too.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9134699]SS: Ed Gomez, DET/SF [/url]

The league's steals king (but also the errors king!), plus he had 3000 hits, and he won 3 MVPs spread out over nine seasons.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8443796]3B: Delos Bowers, BRO/CHN [/url]

Only three thirdbasemen in the Hall of Fame, and Bowers is probably the best of the bunch. Third all-time in hits, made 12 straight All-Star teams.

[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9728941]OF: Heinz Pinkney, MIA[/url]

Greatest slugger ever. Still the league record-holder in HR and RBI forty years after he retired.

[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7626987]OF: Stan Berkman, FLA/NYA/PIT/ATL[/url]

Might be the GOAT. Only player to win 5 MVPs, only player to start on 15 All-Star teams, still the NGL all-time leader in runs/hits/doubles. Was still a full-time starter at age 40 and yet managed to maintain an .893 career OPS.

[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8856274]OF: Alfonso Epps, BOS/CLE [/url]

3,000 hits, 3 MVPs, 13 All-Star starts.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9700513]SP: Frank Hughes, MIA/HOU[/url]

NGL's leader in career wins and career no-hitters; 6 Cy Young awards.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9844790]SP: Kid Skrmetta, KC[/url]

Six Cy Young awards in seven seasons!

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7563105]SP:Mike Giebell, NYA/OAK[/url]

300 wins, 4 Cy Young awards

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9134704]SP: Bugs Ford, LAA/SF/CIN[/url]

Five Cy Youngs (including four straight), 260 career wins, 3.06 career ERA

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7821466]SP: Woody Meister, FLA/NYA[/url]

Five Cy Youngs in six seasons, eight straight 20-win seasons

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9729025]RP: Jack Nelson, KC[/url]

Lowest WHIP and ERA by far in NGL history

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7562919]RP: Bill Kim, NYA[/url]

Made 14 straight All-Star teams, won 8 Fireman awards

Nice to know Lou is still alive and kicking...I should give him a call and ask him if he wants to take over as manager of his old team

OK, pitchers have been added to this list. Sorry for the delay!
