Making trading DfA'd players easier

June 20, 2014 at 01:40PM View BBCode

Two common trading strategies: 1) DfA a player to gauge interest, then pull him back and ask for offers, and 2) Make an offer to the owner of a DfA'd player, saying "pull him back and I'll give you [x]." Both of these are common in every league I've played in, and in real baseball, "designated for assignment" means the team has 10 days to return him to the roster, or trade or release him.

In SimD, these moves involve a bunch of u2s messages and league forum posts that make it needlessly complex, and prone to confusion if the deal become bigger. Then if you do strike a deal, you have to pull the player back, demote someone else temporarily, make the deal, and re-arrange your roster.

Seems like if we just kept the DfA'd players visible on team's depth charts, this would all be easier. Go to the trade desk: the other teams' DfAed players are in there for offers. Start a trade offer: when you get to the "In Exchange For" list of your roster, your recently DfA'd guy is there. Simple.

Instead of the little italicized blue "D" for a disabled list player, you could maybe make it a green italicized "DFA" and highlight the background color, like a player ineligible for the playoffs would be.

Yep, excellent - make it clear to all.
