New Commish

November 15, 2014 at 07:02AM View BBCode

I just received a u2u from admin asking if I would be new commish and I said OK. So unless someone else volunteered and admin hasn't notified us yet I will be the commish. I know one of our top priorities is to discuss looking into possible merger. I am in two merged leagues and I am not a big fan of the larger leagues (24 teams in my merged leagues). However, they appear to be a fact of life as it is hard to keep current leagues filled. If the league votes to look for a league to merge with I have no problem in keeping my team into the new merged league. Variable Development is a big deal and we need to establish our stand on this topic. How many owners would not move to a league that does not have Var Dev? I like Var Dev very much but if the league decides we can drop this in order to merge I will keep my team and go along with it.
It does appear that all of our live owners (not bots) check in regularly so we have a strong core. Post any other topics we need to discuss. Thanks

I like variable development, even though it's doing me no favors, but not so strongly as to make trouble over it.

First of all--Joe welcome as the new Commish--I have played in several leagues and while one or the other is preferred by some of you--to me they end up all being pretty much alike and here's why--if you can only put 20 points on your minors then a lot less guys get developed but all teams have the same chances and if it is variable development there is a lot of advanced players--some of which never get to play and some that seem to go south halfway through their career--same competiveness however!

However the new 24 team leagues which seemed exciting in the beginning has sinced lost excitement with less chance to win it all--a long wait if you are not a play-off team in the postseason and more teams that want to dump their teams and re-build.

Dynabot has not helped because it not is harboring some teams that potential players may want and can't have.

For the future of Sim Dynasty and in order to keep a game with all the right perspective there are several issues to make the game more exciting--interesting--and hard to stay away from and I think this is it:

1. Treat all pitchers the same --everybody now always wants right handed picthers with great control --I say make them equal and make velocity equal to control--that makes for a more varied pitching staff.
2. When this happens it also makes us look at hitters more and we should have great hitters that excel at being contact hitters rather than power hitters--which is what we all look for.
3.your minor players should not have any numbers on them but get better based on a formula that shows how you put your best team on the field against your opponent.
4.With step 3 in place your all out aggressiveness to win making your minor players better--along with your draft picks plus the luck of the season will have teams keep their stars longer and make for a wide open game!

I know this is a lot to ask for but think it would be a lot more exciting--What are your thoughts?

agreed on pretty much everything written frostee. thing is, chances are the admins wont make any significant changes to programming. theyve usually been adverse to it unless they are adding something big (mentoring etc), which has been rare in the years ive been here.

i still like the 24 team league im in. its cool but different strokes.

thanks to Joe for stepping up as well. now we just need that HOF revival :saint:

Also agree with Frostee. I prefer the 16 team leagues but I would never leave a league just because it goes to 20 or 24 teams. I prefer variable development but I am in a lot of leagues with just about all the different development systems covered and I like the differences. Each system is unique and you expect different players in the end.
I would vote in every HOF election but I do not have time to participate in putting the HOF together or coordinating it once it is off the ground. I have been HOF coordinator in two leagues and it does take some time to do it right. If anyone or a committee of coordinators can get the HOF started it would be great.
