My last pack of cigs

July 14, 2004 at 01:52AM View BBCode

I've tried to quit so many times but have failed everytime. So I made it so I can't touch my money until August and am down to my last pack of cigarettes. I'm forcing myself to quit cold turkey, wish me luck

well willpower has failed me before, which is why I've forced myself to quit. No matter how much I want one I just won't be able to afford them. It sucks having no money in my pocket but it will be worth it in the end when I'm not breathing heavy from just walking up the stairs

The 2nd and 3rd days were toughest for me, but it's worth it when you suddenly have more money. It's almost like getting a raise or a promotion.

The third hour is the hardest for me. That's the farthest I've ever gotten...

Actually when I was sixteen I had to quit for two whole weeks at my grandmother's house. I stole money out of her purse and snuck out at 2 AM to go get a pack of smokes. That's how hard up I was. Eesh. More power to ya.

Just like my mom, Duff. I cant imagine her going 1 hour without a cig.

I can go fine for about an hour or two...probably up to two and a half or three before I'm really ready to tear my hair out. I hate flying though because I have to plan my flights around cigarettes. Salt Lake City is a nice place to stop, because they have smoking rooms. So does Dulles. Minneapolis is a nightmare because you have to go outside and that requires walking about two miles and then going through security again. And I'll do it every time. I'm so pathetic.

I remember Minneapolis! I used to hate that place, worst airport ever, not just because of the smoking situation. It always seems to take forever to take off.

I did that when I flew down to Florida. Every public place in Florida is nonsmoking(thanks to the new law) and I ended up going through security 3 times before my plane took off. Well I'm down to half a pack and I'm starting to get scared...I become a bit of an asshole when I don't have my nicotine. Cigarettes=worst drug ever...and they're legal.

Why not the gum or patches? Do they actually work?

not for me, direct nicotine makes me sick. Besides, the hardest habit for me to break is the actually process of smoking. Sure lack of nicotine bothers me but it's much harder to stop moving my hand up and down while actually inhaling the smoke. It's hard to explain, but I just don't know what to do with my hands when I don't smoke. And fresh air burns like toxic gas :)

I know what you mean scammy, after I quit I would always catch myself with a pen in my mouth

oh it's horrible! I'm not even done with my last pack and I'm already trembling in fear at the thought of not having any. Why couldn't I be addicted to something healthier like porn or voodoo?

You'll be fine, just maintain!

I had to try to quit about 10 or 12 times before it finally stuck. The lozenges worked for me, but maybe not for you. But I believe in you!

I know what you mean about the hardest habit to break being the process of smoking. I missed smoking most of all because it was something to do! Try not to get bored, those are the worst times to be trying to give it up!

oh great, I'm always bored! 24/7 I'm haunted by bordom...maybe that's why I smoke so much. Anyway, I'm down to my last 7...dooms day is upon us. Before of me, I may very well wake up a monster tomorrow

Personally, I have only been a social smoker. I know you can do it though because both my Dad (smoke for 20 years) and my Bro (not sure how many years) both quit cold turkey.

However, they both added a few extra pounds afterwards, but don't let that stop you.

I bought a whole crapload of gum, but I know it's just not the same. Hopefully it'll help, I'm smoking one now and have 2 left. oh boy...
