2012 Preview

March 16, 2015 at 02:05PM View BBCode

The 2012 Season looks like it could be a thriller.

The American League has a changing of the guard in order. Anaheim has begun a rebuild. It appears that Detroit is the odds on favorite going into this year. Minnesota has made great improvements and Washington although aging, still has plenty left in the tank. Kansas City looks like the team that will improve quite a bit this year, but is not quite ready yet.

Predicted order of finish
1. Detroit - Rotation should carry them back to playoffs
2. Washington - Aging and will be in a battle
3. Minnesota - Making a run at it...will it be enough?
4. Anaheim - Rebuilding but still a lot of talent
5. Cleveland - rebuilding, but still has some good talent.
6. Seattle - rebuilding but will drop further this year
7. Kansas City - stronger, but not ready just yet
8. Boston - Still on bottom, but I see them with the #2 pick due to the weakness of the league after the top 3.

I think it will be a race between Washington & Minnesota for the 2nd playoff spot...it could go either way. Kansas City is much improved but I don't think they climb that much yet.

The National League should still be led by the World Champion Miami Yams. Although aging, they should still be the odds on favorite this season. The story is that teams 3-7 improved by leaps and bounds while Cincinnati is beginning to age. This should be quite a battle for the 2nd playoff spot and by year's end there might even be a challenger for Miami.

Predicted order of finish
1. Miami - WS Champs...probably not as good as last year, but still better than anyone else
2. Brooklyn - Close...can the bullpen get it done, and do they hit enough?
3. Pittsburgh - Lack of Depth may get the rotation, but this team has a legitimate shot.
4. Chicago - Making a run at it. Will they hit enough, is bullpen good enough?
5. Cincinnati - Starting rotation has weakened...do they have enough to hold on?
6. Arizona - Do they have enough hitting? Pitching is strong.
7. St. Louis - Probably a year or two away...but crazier things have happened.
8. Milwaukee - Should have a firm hold on next year's #1 pick.

The 2nd spot is really up for grabs...These teams all have strengths and all have weaknesses. It may come down to which General Manager acquires additional personnel to improve or build depth. This will be a hotly contested race.

Predicted World Series.

I was digging it greatly until this line:

"Predicted Winner
Miami "

LoL. We'll see what happens! For now, just hope I can make it back into the big dance.

Well, it is looking like this wasn't too far off as the season winds down. I am certainly not loving the fact that Brooklyn choked at the end of the season for the second consecutive year in a row. Eight losses in a row when you are in the pennant race in the final month of the season can make you seriously ill.

Anaheim is the surprising team, and Detroit is the disappointing team in the A.L.

The N.L. is going as suspected. Pittsburgh overcame early injuries and appears close to nailing down the 2nd spot. However, it has been a tight race all season.

Great race in the NL. 7 games left and 6 teams are still in it. With Miami getting old, it's going to be a really fun race to watch over the next couple years with so many good teams.

Anaheim is having a great year too. We will all just sit and wonder what could have been if they hadn't traded everyone away. Detroit's struggles are surprising, but with such a young team, I don't think anyone will remember that their playoff party took a year off.
