New York 2 Seattle 1
Boston 2 Tampa 1
Toronto 14 Kansas City 1

New York's 2-1 win over Seattle coupled with Chicago's 2-1 loss in Washington meant that the New Yorkers moved into a tie for third place.

First place Boston continued to be red hot winning their sixth straight defeating Tampa 2-1

Toronto turned the dogs out against Kansas City bombarding the Royals 14-1.

Washington 2 Chicago 1

Chris Woodson (WP 4-2 8 IP 3 Hits 1R/1ER 1BB/10 Strike outs.) Woodson opened in the wrestling term ''like a house afire'' striking out the side in the first inning and the first two batters in the second inning.

John McElwee broke up the strikeout streak with a single. Woodson retired the next hitter Hal Arndt on a routine pop fly.

Washington scored a run in the bottom of the first putting two hits together; John Fisher singled in Jay Joshua with the run off Chicago starter Rip Herndon (LP 4-1 7 IP 6 Hits 2R/2ER 3BB/8SO).

Herndon and Woodson both had strong outings. Herndon allowed John Fisher's first home run in the 7th inning which proved to be the game winner when Bill Virgil cleared the decks in the 9th for his 11th save.

Chicago tied the game I the 3rd inning. Torey Richardson hit his 3rd of the season.

Fisher, a late season call up last season, appearing in one game, and a long shot during the spring to make the final roster went four for four is now hitting .356 (16-45 1 home run 5 RBI)
