Detroit 3 Sox 2
Hal Crabb, a hard throwing right hander, went eight innings striking out 11 to improve to 2-4 on the season. Crabb allowed two runs on seven hits and walked three.
Mark Powers took over following the eighth inning and earned his first save with a scoreless ninth inning. Powers struck out one to give the Tigers pitchers 12 for the game.
Detroit jump out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Josh Barnes solo blast, his seventh of the season.
Boston tied it in their half of the second inning when Jim Dalrymple doubled and Hienie Lois singled him in with two outs. Dalrymple scored both runs for Boston and drove in one.
The Tigers got two more in the third to go up 3-1 on a one-out two run double by Jack Stone.
Dalrymple homered in the fourth to make it 3-2 but Boston got no closer.
Detroit, languishing in sixth place, has ben surging a bit of late winning six of ten but have a nine game hole to climb out of and five teams to catch.

Cleveland and Toronto are tied at 27-17 at the top of the standings.
