Cuban native Marcelino Lopez threw 7 strong innings scattered three hits struck out seven and was charged with one run (unearned) to go5-2 on the season.
Mark Powers (eighth inning) and Alex Colpaert (ninth inning) finished things off with Colpaert earning his 9th save.
Cory Kerlin (LP 3-2), Oakland's starter, went six innings gave up 5 hits and two runs walked one struck out five but took the loss. John Beasley and Vern Loevich pitched three innings of scoreless relief for Oakland.
Detroit scored its' two runs in the second inning off Kerlin. Tony Cooke singled with one out and stole second. Don Baker walked putting two on with one out.
Efran Gonzalkz singled in Cooke and Jose Gonzalez' followed with Detroit's third hit of the inning to send Baker in to score.
Oakland got an unearned run in the eighth inning when pinch hitter Chris Corriden reached on a two base error (center fielder Jack Stone dropped the ball).
Mark Powers replaced Mendez and allowed the inherited runner to score when Dan Isbell's singled.
Colpaert came in in the ninth and finished things off.
