Houston wins series two games to one.

George Tolar went nine innings allowed one run on four hits walked three and struck out five. Tolar record is now 6-3 and the complete game was his team best fourth of the season.

After playing three extra inning affairs in their last four games the bullpen got a much needed game off thanks to the work of Tolar.

Lloyd Jackson hit his fifth home run of the season in the third inning off Jose Christenson to make the score 1-0 Houston.

One inning later Jose Hernandez added his fifth to up the lead to 2-0.

A two-out single by Joe Sucheki in the fifth inning made it 3-0.

John Thomas had a one out double in the sixth inning to make it 4-0.

Houston put up two more to make it 6-0 before Joe Manders homered in the eighth inning for Pittsburgh to break up Tolar's shutout.


Colorado 9 Chicago 8

The good ship lollypop Chicago has been has run into some rough seas. Colorado dealt them their fourth straight loss and sweeping their series with a 9-8 win.

Chicago let this one get away.

Hy Gonzalez homered on the games first pitch for Chicago.

Jim Blazier hit a two run home run in the third as Chicago built a comfortable 7-1 lead after four innings.

Chicago starter Skeeter Paumeir gave out in the sixth (5.1 inning 5 hits five runs) and was knocked out in the sixth inning.

Elmer Masteller hit a lead off home run to start the sixth off Paumeir.

Tony Evers walked, stole second and scored on Jack Malone's RBI single.

Roy Lade hit a two run shot to cap off that inning. The score was 7-5 Chicago.

Mike Murrell hit a solo homerun for Chicago in the top of the seventh. 8-5 Chicago.

One inning later Colorado added three more to tie it 8-8 on a two run home run by Roy Lade off Hugh Sanchez and a solo shot by Jack Malone off George Campbell.

Colorado won it on a single in the bottom of the ninth inning by Tony Evers.

St Louis beat San Francisco 5-3 and Arizona took New York 7-5 in 10 innings.
