Both St Louis and New York are 27-20. however New York has dropped three straight after losing to seventh place Miami 4-2 in eleven innings.
Miami now 5-2 in extra innings for the season has played in four consecutive extra inning games going 2-2.
The lost to the Cubs 10-9 in fourteen innings and 11-9 in eleven innings and defeated New York 3-2 in ten innings in the first game of this series.
Chicago took care of business over coming Cincinnati 9-4 in their game.
In the Dodger Milwaukee contest, Marty Barkley went seven shutout innings allowing four hits walking one and fanning five.
Bill Seats and Art Rohe completed the shutout for Los Angeles. Seats allowed one hit and recorded one strikeout in the eighth and Rohe retired all three batters he faced in the ninth, zeros across, no save involved.
pat nelson's second inning double drove in Galen Anderson who had walked tov make it 1-0. Jaret Coats singled in Nelson with the second run.
Tony Fitzmaurice solo home run in the fifth inning off Bill Cree made it 3-0. The drive finished Cree(4.2 IP 6H 3R/3ER 3BB/6SO) for the day, replaced by Donnie Spruill.
A five run seventh inning iced the game for the Dodgers.
Joe Weis hit a two run homerun off Spruill (2IP 1H 2R/2ER 1BB/4SO) to send him to the showers.
Sam Salmon, his replacement, faced three batter and did not retire any. Fitzmaurice walked, Steve Williams singled to right field, and Jay Martin doubled in both runners.
Hank Seelbach took over after that and allowed a run scoring double to John Prough to finish the game score. 8-0 Dodgers.

The LA Dodgers, 28-19, hold a slim one game edge over both St Louis and New York.
