Braves 14 Philadelphia 3

One day after being held to one run on nine hits over eight innings by Philadelphia's Mark Gibson, the Braves pounded out seventeen hits and scored fourteen runs off Philadelphia's starter Cal Bullinger (6 innings 11 hits 8 runs), and two relievers Joe Northern (0 innings 2 hits 2 runs one earned, and Hub Alexander (2 innings 4 hits 4 runs, 1 earned.)

Jim Maysey started for the Braves had to do some damage control early. George Gomez struck out to start the game. Gene Tauscher reached on an error (dropped fly ball) by Chris Bayless in left field. Howie Duncan made it painful when he flowed with a homerun putting Philadelphia ahead 2-0.

Milwaukee answered those runs in the bottom of the first inning. John Powell tripled with one out. Chad Barns singled him in cutting the lead in half. Bullinger walked Chris Bayless Welch popped out to the shortstop. Catcher Hal Barnhard, heating up with the bat considerably, singled in the tying run.

The Braves took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. Kevin Robertson drew a walk from Bullinger with one out. Robertson stole second base, his third stolen base of the season.

John Powell, who had a first inning triple, hit his second triple of the game putting the Braves ahead 4-2.

Philadelphia pulled one run back in the sixth. Frank Conde was walked by Maysey with one out and was driven in by Tim Mayer's double. 4-3 Braves.

The bottom of the sixth saw Jim Manders and Scott Greene hit consecutive singles putting runners on first and third with one out. Maysey, the pitcher, got the run in with a sacrifice fly. 5-3 Braves.

The seventh was the first of two big inning for the Braves that blew the game open completely.

Jack Welch hit a three run homerun off Bullinger, to finish him off and Scott Greene drove in two with a single of Joe Northern to make the score 10-3

Four more runs flowed across in the eight. Pinch hitter Lou Herndon drove in two with a single, Robertson doubled in one and one came in on an error to make the final score 14-3.



Montreal 6 Arizona 0

First place Montreal and the contending Arizona Cardinals are in the midst of a good series. Bobby Sullivan pitched a gem for Montreal shutting out the Cardinals on three hits walked four and struck out nine.

Seth Smith (7) and Ben Crowell (4) homered for Montreal.
