Victor Darby had high hopes of playing in the majors, but quite frankly he was not talented enough to be drafted. He did possess some leadership qualities that may help younger pitchers develop and was picked up off of waivers by Cleveland as a potential future mentor.
As Cleveland's roster has started to age, the 25th spot on the roster, Long B RP, was open this season and Darby was promoted to the majors.
Incredibly Darby was summoned from the bullpen as the final pitcher in an 18-run blowout loss recently. In his major league debut Victor stuck out the first batter he faced!
However, the outing ended in cruelty as only ABE can conjure up a 43 game injury to a player with B- health making their first career appearance.
Victor Darby may never pitch again, but may he be the face of the countless others who pass through the league without any notoriety in trying to make the big leagues.

That is a cruel joke that Abe pulled....at least Darbies family got to see him in a mlb uniform for .2 innings of his career :)
