Let's make some changes!

July 01, 2016 at 08:15PM View BBCode

Face it...Dynasty Leagues including the DML have gotten stale. We have lost 3 long time owners this season and 2 more went last year. That is a lot of key owners to replace. We got pretty lucky last season, I doubt our luck holds. I would hate to see the DML have revolving door ownership for a few franchises like most leagues have or even worse play against Dynasty Bots while dying a slow death waiting for a merger with another dead Dynasty League.

I'm convinced the answer is to go to a 3 games per day private league. The main drawback in that we no longer would win Dynasty Dollars for every win, but the long delay between seasons would be gone too. Meaning there is about 30 more days during a calendar year of actually playing games. Bottom line is the cost of $5.25/month for a private league is virtually the same as Dynasty Leagues. There is rarely an opening for 3 GPD private leagues suggesting there is always demand.

A couple of formats that I'd like to try are a Salary League or a Max Development/Max Injury League. The salary leagues are totally different where literally every team is "going for it" every year and I'm a little hesitant to go that direction until they work out a few kinks...apparently there is virtually no reason to develop young players. The Max Development leagues don't use CPs in the Minors...every player is developed as if they had 5 CPs on them. Obviously the players get pretty good with lots of depth even on the waiver wire, so the Max Injuries come into play to counteract that a bit. I know Ptech is in the Don Newcombe League that plays with those rules. I really liked that format when I was in the DNL but the 6 games per day just killed it for me.

Anyway my main point is that we need to consider some changes that will make the DML unique and insure it's longevity.

Thoughts?

I am game for a change or a merge, this league used to be one of my favorites, now it surely is not and it needs something to shake it up.

Otherwise I probably will be exiting here soon too, I am curious to see what the rest of the league has to say...

I'm all for a cp change, for I always thought it was unfair to say I only have 3 prospects really worth developing, the rest can rot on the waivers as soon as I replace them. I'm also for variable improvements, to make things more realistic, but that may be a bit much, as would be salary, which I have one and that's all I need for that.

It just sucks that its so hard to keep things together lately. This site needs some innovation.

I don't have terribly strong feelings. I've tried to play multiple leagues in the past but just don't have the time or attention span for it, and I've always held on to this league. To say I don't have terribly strong feelings means I'm not necessarily looking for any changes, but it also means I'm not opposed either.
I particularly like the sound of the max development/injury league; I also find the CP system a bit restrictive and frankly stupid, both in the limitations on how many players can be truly developed and the inability to target development (i.e. my minor leaguer Jim Edwards; his big lack is power but I can't target that, so what's the point of CPs at all?).
And we can't let Beanballs leave, I don't want to think about being the senior member of the DML (which I might be if he goes)...

I too would be willing to commit to a max development/injury league, for all the reasons previously stated.

Same here. The CP system has always been dumb and quite restrictive on teams going all in on re-builds. What's the point of loading up a minor league system when you can only develop 3.75 players at a time?
Max CP/Injury sounds kind of intriguing.

Max CP sounds interesting to me too.

I really think you should make league decisions without my input, though. I'm fighting burnout real bad right now. Don't know if I'll work though it or need a break.

Sadly I think this is how a lot of us feel. Sim D is a great game, but with no improvements ever coming from Admin...once you've played for awhile, you've pretty much seen it all. I guess that is why I think going private is the answer...there are a lot of improvements available that just never got implemented to Dynasty Leagues.

we should really do a poll, and maybe it should be a private vote, but to find out how we get 100% participation is the issue. I'm not sure how many teams will be loyal enough to stick through a league conversion. I'm going to stick around for almost anything, just no salary :)

I don't want to go to a salary situation.

I'm kinda in the same boat as cspencef. I've not given any of my teams the time required of late. Partly because development cannot be controlled but also because I just don't have the time.

I'd be willing to give some change a go.

At the very least it may facilitate some more active trading. It seems like all leagues have ground to a halt because one third of the league is competing and the other 2/3 are rebuilding. It makes for a pretty stale and uncompetitive environment.
So a 100% vote is a requirement to go private?

I'm not sure...when the Billy Williams converted there were a couple owners that didn't even offer an opinion and the change went forward.

Slowjoe has answered a u2u and said he would stay if we convert, but pittslrs wants to cut back on his number of teams. So it looks like we have 9 for so far...none against...5 yet to hear from.

I will stay if they change the league.

sorry gentlemen. i'm here for dynasty only.

i spent far too long building this team without a single championship to show for it to have the rug pulled out now.

personally i don't think changing the league will matter as simd as a whole is in a slow death spiral. the only way to fix it is to fix ABE. nothing is more frustrating than having a team of all stars get outscored in 4 playoff games to a team that shouldn't even be in the playoffs. makes it all a waste of time and money.

Thanks for your opinion, with your knowledge of the game it is valued. I agree with the slow death spiral of Sim Dynasty...there's 184 teams available! But of those only two are 3 games per day private league teams and they just came available. If there is still demand anywhere on the site, this is where it's at.

How does changing the minor league system pull the rug out? It will take 4 or 5 seasons for there to be any effect at the major league level. I might even argue that the contenders right now might have an easier rebuild coming up or at least more fun. The max injury part is a legitimate concern right now though...maybe we could install that 6 months from now for the start of the 2030 season.

Bundy, I do not understand either how a change to the minor league system or injury system would have the "rug pulled out" from you, maybe you could explain that to us so we could understand?

You would still be competing against the same owners who would also have the same minor rules impacts, and the site has proven that the dynasty model is one that everyone is tired of, what harm could changes like these make?

On a side note this is my last HOF ballot (only three voters, maybe new blood is needed), if anyone wants to take over, please let me know, I can work with admin on the change...

rebel - how many 3 gpd private leagues are in existence? my guess is there aren't many in which case there really isn't a demand - it's the opposite.

as far as the changes go, i would have done things differently if the settings were different.
if we had switched to max dev awhile ago it wouldn't have taken nearly as long to rebuild my team and i might not have been forced to trade for talent.

you can try to argue that everyone is in the same boat, but i have the only team that took as long as it did to rebuild, suffered playoff failures the past several seasons, and is finally in the position to succeed right now after trading away nearly everything in the minors.

also i absolutely HATE max injuries and variable DEV.

Six leagues...104 teams...2 openings. We have 3 openings in our 16-team league! Because your last rebuild took so long, you want your next one to be long and miserable too???

Is this one of your favorite leagues? The problem is that it used to be for a lot of us. Now it's in that "slow death spiral" like the rest of Sim Dynasty. If we aren't pro-active to find a niche for the DML, it will just become another Bot filled Dynasty League. I'd much rather it be my favorite league again.

how many of those teams are being run by the commish?

besides the teams that are posted, many leagues let the commish run dead teams while looking for replacement owners/chaparones instead of having bots.

my favorite league is EOL. it's a different animal altogether.
Beanballs

July 07, 2016 at 06:11PM View BBCode

I am in most of the 3 GPD private ones (the CPBL, BWL, JWL, and LAL), and none of them have teams run by commish's nor chaperones, the only ones I do not know about are the VBL and the newly private RSL...

Is the EOL healthy? No Bots, no chaperones, no teams being run by the commish? That's all we are looking for in the Dale Murphy. The DML needs to be a "different animal" if it's going to thrive. Three games per day, max development/injury...no other league like it!

I appreciate the debate and I'd be surprised if you are the only one in the league that wants to stay Dynasty, but I just don't understand the reasoning not to move forward instead of being one of 30 floundering Dynasty Leagues.

July 08, 2016 at 02:13AM View BBCode

bean - apparently YOU are a different animal altogether as well. LOL

rebel - the EOL will always be healthy because of the message board. when we have people leave it's due to personal reasons or because they are sick of simd in general, not league format or owners.

for crying out loud we even have a LOSS PENALTY that was my idea even though i'm one of the best tank drivers around.
Beanballs

July 08, 2016 at 02:32AM View BBCode

Not that different of an animal but I appreciate the compliment!

Just looking at the owners here, seven of us are in those leagues, and most are in several of those private 3 GPD leagues, maybe because we enjoy the different rules and do not have the options like the faster leagues, hence the demand.

Heck in the BWL we were the first to have the wheel draft (which is the best anti tanking system going) and in the CPBL we have a lottery along with the WPM, both of those leagues are as active and engaged as any on the site (we could make this one the same way if we infuse some life into it and make the changes)...

ugh. i HATE any type of draft wheel or lotto as well as max injuries and variable dev.

they have a lotto in BLL. i got screwed every single time there. over 2 stints comprising 72 seasons my team moved up in the draft ONCE. most of the time my team moved DOWN when rebuilding.
