September 26, 2016 at 10:03PM View BBCode

Toronto's Bill Sorrell has gone 4-0 in his last five starts and is 6-3 for the season now with a outstanding eight inning shutout performance against Cleveland. It was Sorrell second win of the streak during the streak.

Sorrell, a left hander, lowered his ERA to 2.60 over fourteen starts. Joe Holdsworth clinched it in the ninth for his 27th save.

The game was scoreless through the first four innings, Cleveland starter Randy Ryan allowed four strikeouts and fanned four during that stretch. Sorrell record six strikeouts and gave up one hit.

Toronto catcher Mitch Jacobson broke up the shut out in the fifth with a one-hot two-run home run off Ryan, 0-6.

Sorrell kept putting up zeros but Toronto broke through with two more runs in the eighth inning, both via the long ball; Pat Gonzalez hit his eighth with no one on with one out and Jerry Billings added his ninth with two out to make the score 4-0.

It was all over as Holdsworth shut down Cleveland in the ninth for save number 27.

Eliminated; AL -- Baltimore, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Boston.

Eliminated; NL -- Houston, New York, Brooklyn, Miami, San Francisco.

Chicago looks like the NL winner and for now St Louis, by virtue of their win over the Cubs has the Wild Card spot in its hands tentatively.
