HOF Catch Up Vote
October 25, 2016 at 09:45PM View BBCode
It's been a while since we did any HOF voting (15 seasons) and in an effort to get things back up to a regular yearly event, here's one big catch up ballot. Actually, it'll be two ballots - one now for position players then another later for pitchers. We'll do this quickly to get through both groups,
ballots will be counted Nov 1 then pitchers will be nominated.
Below are the position player HOF nominees. In an effort to keep the ballot short, I have the absolute best to offer here but I also probably missed a few guys. If I missed someone that should be nominated, post those names along with your vote. After the first two rounds, we'll do a HOF run off for the extra nominees.
To get in on this special ballot, 75% of the vote is required. That is, 75% of votes cast gets you in and anyone who does not vote will not be held against the players. This is a one shot chance (then we can get to multiple ballot votes) for this list. Here are your nominees by position:
Catcher:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9323938]Jerry Lamm[/url] - STL
423 HR's, 2640 Hits, 1774 RBI's, 13 time All-Star, 7 time champion, 6 gold gloves
Lamm may be the best hitting catcher we've ever seen. He earned all 13 all-star nods in a row and won 4 gold gloves in a row. Lamm retired in 2008.
First Base:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10176110]Danny Dressen[/url] - CIN
433 HR's, 2703 Hits, 1663 RBI's, 428SB's, 2008 MVP, 11 time All-Star, 9 gold gloves
Dressen managed a well-balanced career that included over 400 HR's and 400 SB's. He put aside the notion of first basemen acting as defensive liabilities while collecting 6 gold gloves, including #2 of 3 in a row during his 2008 MVP season
Second Base:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9022641]KC Dilla[/url] - BOS
435 HR's, 2620 Hits, 1574 RBI's, 3 time MVP, 10 time All-Star, 4 time champion
Dilla followed his franchise around to three cities, from New York to Baltimore to Boston, racking up accolades as he went. Dilla won 3 MVP awards including a Triple Crown season in 2004.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=10176141]Marty Hardgrove[/url] - SEA
365 HR's, 2880 Hits, 1408 RBI's, 364 SB's, 9 time all-star, 2 time champion, 5 gold gloves
Hargrove had a run of dominance from 2005 to 2013 where he was an all-star every year and won 4 of his 5 gold gloves. This solid table setter finished with over 1500 runs while falling just 120 hits short of 3000.
Shortstop:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8699517]Jose Cassini[/url] - COL
481 HR's, 2704 Hits, 1662 RBI's, 525 SB, 3 time MVP (back to back '01-'02), 8 time All-Star, 5 time champion, 6 gold gloves
While Cassini wears a Colorado hat, he played the majority of his career in the team's former location as the New York Knights. Cassini won the MVP award in his third season. When he was dealt to the St Louis Browns in 2000, he approached the games with a new ferocity winning the MVP in 01 and 02. This included the Triple Crown in 2002. Meanwhile he collected 6 gold gloves along the way.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10072189&statsorimps=stats]Chief Hand[/url] - SEA
345 HR's, 2549 Hits, 1415 RBI's, 197 SB's, 2 time MVP, 8 time all-star, 3 time champion, 2 gold gloves
Chief was once traded twice in 2002 while still regarded as a rough prospect. He took off from there, earning his first of 8 all-star appearances just two years later. He won the MVP in 2007 and collected a World Series ring with the Steelheads. When things fell apart in Seattle, Hand found himself on the upstart Miami Yams where he captured the 2012 MVP and two more titles.
Left Field:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9171578]Candy Boyle[/url] - KC
199 HR's, 2972 Hits, 999 RBI's, 626 SB's (8th), 4 time All-Star, 9 gold gloves
Boyle lacked the regular all-star recognition many of his ilk received, but made up for that with blazing speed and great defense. He ended up 8th all time in stolen bases and 16th in hits. The valuable leadoff man is also 7th all time in walks.
Center Field:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9556134]Joe Watkins[/url] - MIA
505 HR's, 3021 Hits, 1778 RBI's, 359 SB's, 2 time MVP, 11 time All-Star, 3 time champion, 2 gold gloves
The franchise Yam is in both the 500 HR and 3000 hit clubs. Watkins led the league in HR's three times and was the all-star starter 10 years in a row. He was traded in his prime and didn't disappoint with 2 MVP awards and three titles.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9323934]Steve Best[/url] - STL
171 HR's, 3089 Hits (10th), 1848 Runs (5th), 891 SB's (1st), 9 time All-Star, 7 time champion, 1 gold glove
Steve could be the best leadoff man of all time. He finished 10th in hits, 5th in runs and 1st in stolen bases. He led the league in SB's 9 times and holds the single season record (70). Don't forget his 1286 walks that are good for 3rd all-time.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=10072140]Roger Goodson[/url] - WAS
359 HR's, 2662 hits, 1466 RBI's, 433 SB's, '08 MVP, 8 time all-star, 3 gold gloves
Goodson had an 8 year run as an all-star every year plus an MVP award and his 3 gold gloves. Outside of that time he was still a great player for the Halos, but nothing matches that stretch of domination. Goodson did not manage to capture a title, although he took the Halos to the series 3 times in his career.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9805512]Joe Rodriguez[/url] - KC
349 HR's, 2787 hits, 1565 RBI's, 467 SB's, 6 time All-star, 6 gold gloves
Like Goodson, Rodriguez was never able to win a World Series, but took his team to three. After a slow start to his career, he became an annual all-star for the Monarchs before being traded to Cincy in 2009. Even as his career waned, he still provided top notch defense scoring three straight gold gloves in his last three full seasons.
Right Field:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8699578]Jonson Heyward[/url] - CLE
542 HR's (4th), 3024 hits, 1879 RBI's (2nd) 453 SB's, 4 time MVP, 10 time all-star, 7 gold gloves
Heyward dominated the American League for the duration of his career. He followed a rookie of the year campaign with an MVP award, his first of 4. He added in 7 gold gloves and 4 AL pennants, although never hoisted the big trophy.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9323973]Zach Atwood[/url] - WAS
Atwood was a solid Halo and a big part of their success in the 2000's. Atwood played at a time where the outfield positions were their strongest, limiting him to just 4 all-star appearances. Atwood finished with over 2500 hits and nearly 500 stolen bases.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=10176140]Ben Fisher[/url] - SEA
312 HR's, 2871 hits, 1356 RBI's, 360 SB's, 2 time MVP (back to back '09 - '10), 7 time all-star, 1 time champion, 1 gold glove
Fisher enjoyed a great run in Seattle that ended with back to back MVP awards. Fisher always seemed to hit for a good average while providing good power for a middle of the order bat. He was traded to Pittsburgh after his MVP seasons where he collected his only gold glove but failed to recapture his offensive dominance from the 2000's.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9934170]Jose Reyes[/url] - KC
364 HR's, 2878 hits, 1513 RBI's, 452 SB's, '03 MVP, 6 time all-star, 1 gold glove
Reyes had a dominate 7 year period, earning 6 all-star nods and was an injury away from a 7th. He was the 2003 MVP/Gold Glove/Batting Champion and played in the playoffs 10 times, although his .256 playoff average wasn't enough to get him a ring.

For this ballot, I vote:
Joe Watkins
KC Dilla
Danny Dressen
Jerry Lamm
Jonson Heyward
Jose Cassini
Chief Hand
I also propose to add these players onto the hitter runoff:
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9171508]Damon Sead[/url] - 10 All-star teams, 1 MVP, 1 Gold Glove, consistent greatness. Also a higher OPS than anybody on the ballot except for Dilla.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9440867]Jason Thomasson[/url] - 11 All-star teams, 1 MVP, 1 Gold Glove, Rookie of the Year, and the same career OPS as Jose Cassini. Lost out on some playing time during his prime because his idiot manager (me) unnecessarily sacrificed him for additional mentoring.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10273919]Bobby Williams[/url] - Yeah another one of my own but: 8 All-star teams, 1 MVP, superb defender (2 Gold Gloves and +100 (!) at 2B), better career OPS than 2/3s of the current ballot. And all this despite being constantly injured.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10683841]Harry Gonzalez[/url] - 7 All-star teams, 4 Gold Gloves, comparable to Fergy Malone, who Santo suggested earlier for the runoff.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9323940]Art Foster[/url] - 9 All-star teams, 1 MVP, 1 Gold Glove, better career OPS than everybody on the ballot except Dilla.
[url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=11201615]Jeison Hernandez[/url] - 7 All-Star teams, 4 Gold Gloves, Rookie of the Year. This would be a controversial pick as he entered the league late, but boy was he good.
You can see I'm more of a rate stats guy than a counting stats guy. At any rate, I think these players are at least as worthy as the bottom of this ballot.
