Seattle rebounded from a 5-4 loss in game one to take a hard fought 4-1 victory in game two.

Starting pitchers Larry Perez (7.2) and Clyde Campaneris (7.1) both pitched into the eighth inning. Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on Mark Crowell hit a two out solo home run off losing pitcher Clyde Campaneris (4-2).

The Mariners increased their lead to 2-0 in the seventh inning with two hits, singles by Henry Mathews and Jim Martin and a sacrifice fly by Jerry Reese.

Boston cut the lead to 2-1 in the eighth inning. Perez walked lead off batter Glenn Allen and then walked John Conger with two out.

Seattle made a pitching change bringing in Kevin Polick to replace Perez. Polick gave up a double to center field Joe Goldman scoring Allen. Conger was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Hughie Parks.

Dave Washburn failed to hold Seattle in place in the top of the 9th. A two base throwing error by third baseman John Conger opened the door to disaster.

George Bastian followed with a double that scored Martin and catcher Leo Leroy singled driving in Bastian upping the score to 4-1.

Seattle's closer, Stan Perry, made that three run lead stand up in the bottom of the ninth for his fourth save this season.

Seattle is now 17-12 two games behind Anaheim.


Anaheim 7 Los Angeles 2

First place Anaheim kept winning taking their third straight and second in a row over Los Angeles.

Mike Goff went nine inning to go 6-1 with a 2.01 ERA. Goff allowed 9 hits and 2 runs walked 4 and struck out 8.

Bobby Byrd (3), Rick Holbrook (5) and Eric Anderson (2) all homered for Anaheim.



Detroit 6 Toronto 4

Gibby Ganges went three for three scored twice and drove in two runs to power Detroit to its third straight win.



New York downed Chicago 4-3 in 11 innings to tie that series at a game a peace.
