Detroit 8 Seattle 2
First place Detroit banged out ten hits and scored eight runs in Seattle to knock off the Seamen 8-2. Detroit had three homeruns in the game.
Steve Held his a three run homerun in the third inning. Detroit scored three runs in the fifth on a run scoring single by Held and a two run homerun by Ray Buzas.
Ben Witt hit the third homerun in the seventh inning.
Ed Maas (3-3) went all nine innings allowing 9 hits and two runs struck out eight and walked four.
Oakland downed Boston 4-3 scoring three runs in the top of the ninth to overcome a 3-1 deficit.
Bill Closter allowed a single to Charlie White and a run scoring double by Oscar Gray.
Walsh replaced him and gave up a two run home run by Rudy Gibson.
New York 4 Chicago 2
Forrest Moisan hit a solo homerun in the second inning, his 6th this season and walked and scored on a Cal DiMaggio single in the 7th. Jim Terry had a run scoring single in the 9th for New York to off set an Ivan Griffin two run shot in the sixth.
Terry Stone (3-4) picked up the win.
Minnesota 7 Baltimore 0
Last place Minnesota had the best pitching performance of the day. Left hander Pedro Mota came within two outs of pitching his first career no-hitter,
Mota walked four and struck out eight.
Baltimore's first base runner was Ted Sullivan after Mota struck out the first two batters. Mota got out of the inning by getting Al Adlesh to pop out to third base.
After Minnesota scored six runs in a long fourth inning, Mota had some tough sledding in the top of the fourth inning when he walked Chris Mayne with one out. Mayne was immediately cut down stealing on a great throw by catcher Don Evers. Mota walked his second hitter of the inning, Angel Crowley before striking out Ted Sullivan.
Third baseman Jay Bailey preserved the no-hitter with one out in the 6th by robbing Harry Roselli with a diving stop and pin point throw to first.
Mota took the no-hitter safely into the ninth retired Mitchell Sosa on a grounder to Bailey at third. Frank Dowling broke it up with a single to right field.
Dowling was forced at second by Fred Grimshaw and Chris Mayne flied out to center fielder Ron Kubenka to end the game.
Minnesota scored six of its seven runs in the third inning.
Curt Osburn doubled and Don Evers singled in the first run. Mota's sacrifice bunt moved the runner up. Frank Alvarez hit a two run homerun and Ron Kubenka later hit a three run homerun to cap off the scoring.
Bob Barnes hit a solo homerun in the eighth inning for an 7-0 final.
