Philadelphia, a winner in 13 inning in game two 2-1 to square their series with Florida took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game three. George Koegel walked. Tony Hegan and Ed Workman followed with singles driving in the run.
Florida tied the game 1-1 in the third inning. Eusebio Cooney tripled to right field. Gregg Smith's high bouncer to shortstop Eric Haslin scored Cooney. 1-1.
Philadelphia took control of the game with a three run 3rd inning.
Pitcher Tom Ward, George Koegel, and Haslin all singled. Ward scored on Haslin's hit. Jim Stimson's two out single scored two runs and gave the Fightins' a 4-1 lead.
Greg Shokes hit a solo home run for Florida in the 7th to cut the Phillies' lead to 4-2. Gregg Smith walked and scored on a single by Bill West in the 8th. 4-3.
Hal Vickers and Larry Johnson singled in the bottom of the 8th putting Vickers at third where he scored on a ground out by Jim Knickerbocker.
Ray Trekell earned save number two with a scoreless ninth inning.
