San Francisco 3 Florida 2 (13 innings)

First place San Francisco battled Florida for 13 innings before staking claim to a 3-2 win in the rubber game of their series. The extra inning victory kept San Francisco in front of both Los Angeles and Philadelphia by two full games.

San Francisco is now 3-2 in extra innings.

San Francisco scored a run in the top of the eight inning on a lead-off walk to Ed Fuhr an d a one-out triple to pinch hitter Johnny Buckeye (.371) .

The score remained tied 2-2 then until Neil Guevara singled to right field with one out in the 13th, stole second base, and scored the go-ahead run on a double by John Dawkins.

Buddy Easterwood struck out Ron Mason, walked Gregg Smith then got slugger Hack Zamloch to hit into a game ending 6-4-3 double play.

It was Easterwood's second save this season.

LA 4 Pittsburgh 1

Ben Hazewood went eight innings (6 hits 1 run 2 walks 4 strikeouts) to pick up his 5th win (5-2).

Charliwe Tarbert worked one inning for his 10th save.

John Ardell and George Stromme each had three hits, half of LA's 12 hits in the game.

Philadelphia defeated Cincinnati 10-5 in game two of their series. Ed Krausse's (5-2) fifth win of the year out of Philadelphia boosted that bullpen's record to 12-5 with a 3.98 ERA.

Eric Haslin hit .357 in the three game series hitting a double, two home runs and driving in nine big runs.

The Phillies came up with four runs in the seventh inning to pull this one out. Pinch hitter George Koegel hit his second of the season and Haslin followed with his fifth later in the inning with two runners on to provided the winning margin.

Philadelphia ran into another extra inning affair in game three and broke a three game losing streak in extra innings to improve to 7-5 on the year in extras.

The Reds hit two triples in the top of the inning (Howard Burns and Chris Blanco) to go ahead 3-1.

In the bottom of the inning Haslin came up with one out and two on and hit his sixth of the season to make it a sweep and a walk off win for the Phils.
