Current the Beanies are locked in a tie for third place tie with Chicago (29-24) and have split their first two games with Detroit, a series strategically important to both teams future pennant hopes this season.

Detroit persevered in game one to double up Boston 6-3 behind Hannibal Jones' (6-2) eight strong innings in which he allowed seven hits and three runs one walk and six strike outs.

Fran Johnson picked up his 4th save.

In game two Boston scored two runs in the first inning off Detroit's starting pitcher Doc Watson.

Watson walked lead-off batter Tony Richardson. Richardson stole second as Jim Jacome struck out.

Art Bradly flied to right for out two.

Watson would not escape with out runs scoring. Doug Rigney's two out double drove in Richardson and Bob Bishop singled in Rigney for a 2-0 lead.

Tyrone Pabor and Guy Brown both hit doubles in Detroit's half of the inning to cut the lead to 2-1.

The score remained 2-1 until the 5th inning.

Art Bradley drew the fourth walk issued by Watson with one out and stole second and third base setting himself up to score on a sacrifice fly by Rigney to stretch the Boston lead to 3-1.

Bob Bishop hit his second homerun of the series and his 11th homer of the season in the 6th inning upping the lead to 4-1.

Detroit scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th on a single by Brown to cut the lead to one run, 4-3.

Bob Klink and Craig Reed protected the lead for the final two innings Reed picked up his 4th save,

Eddie Mountain picked up the win and is 5-4. Watson the loss 2-3.

Oakland 6 New York 5

Second place Oakland has won five straight and three of them have been fashioned in extra innings and the last two wins have been at the expense of the first place new York Bad Apples in New York.

Both are excellent accomplishments.

In game two a seventh in single put Oakland on top 4-2 Pat Betzel walked and scored on a double by Walt DeJohn.

Jonah Rohrmeier hit a two run homerun for New York to tie the game 4-4 in the eighth.

Oakland scored two runs in the top of the 10th on a triple by Anders Girard off Jim Nied.

New York got a run in the bottom of the 10th but fell one short against Oakland Closer Case Smith.
