Boston and Detroit completed their series at the Junkyard in Detroit with the Beanie welcoming back their ace Pete Kiester from a twenty-five day stint on the disabled list.

Kiester was 2-2 when he injured his ankle in a game against Seattle on July 29 returned to duty in top form going nine innings allowing just five hits and one run recording 8 strikeouts and issuing four base on balls.

Bob Bishop completed a great series with the bat going 6 for 11 with four extra base hits, 3 homeruns and a double, a sacrifice fly and six runs batted in.

Bishop hit his third homerun of the series in the first inning with Doug Rigney on second after he had doubled off Ainsworth.

Detroit scored their only run in the bottom of the second. Gus Behrman tripled and Virgil Almada singled. 2-1 Boston.

Lead off batter Tony Richardson had a good series leading off going 3 for 7 and drawing 4 walks.

Richardson walked to start the third and scored on Doug Rigney's second triple of the season.

When the 5th inning rolled around, Richardson led off with another of his walks and scored ahead of Rigney on Rigney's 8th home run to make it 6-1.

Catcher Minoru Matsuda and pitcher Pete Kiester combined to produce the Beanie final run in the 9th. Matsuda doubled and kiester singled him in.

Boston remains four out and finished the month of August with a disappointing 15-13 mark.

NY 5 Oakland 4

New York salvaged game three of their home series with Oakland with a 5-4 victory in the hard fought series. The Apples are four games up now going into September after having a great month of August (18-10).

Oakland posted a 17-11 record.

Joe Hamil (8-3) went eight innings for the win (8 hits 2 runs 4 walks 6 strikeouts).

Jonah Rohrmeier scored two runs in the game for New York after getting a sixth inning single and an eighth inning walk.
