Pittsburgh 10 Montreal 5
John Lade's two run homerun in Pittsburgh's four-run second inning put the Guards in front 4-2. Doe Booty added a two run shot in the 3rd inning to increase the lead to 6-2.
All the runs came off Jim Jessee (6IP 7H 6R/4ER.)
Montreal scored three ties in the 6th inning to tighten the score to 6-5.
Jim Northey singled, Dave Vaughn lined a triple to right to score Northey. and Mike Giles singled in Vaughn but a three run 8th put the game out of reach as Pittsburgh cruised to its 5th straight win moving the Guards into second place displacing Los Angeles.
Pittsburgh's five game winning streak and Colorado's nine straight are the longest winning streaks in the league.
St. Louis (4) and montreal (7) have the longest losing skids.

Colorado 9 Atlanta 3
Colorado committed three errors that made all three of Atlanta's runs unearned but pounded out fourteen hits to score nine runs for the win.
Paul Golden got a no decision despite going 7.2 innings giving up 6 hits and 3 runs all unearned walked three and struck out seven.
Golden led off the 3rd inning with a line drive double that skipped past right fielder John Bell and went to the wall. Jacinto Barraza singled in Golden. Colorado led 1-0.
Colorado added a run in the 6th.
Willie Hughes singled to center field and stole second base. Jay Battarini walked Harold Parent and Tom Smalley to load the bases.
That was the end for Bottarini. Atlanta brought on Joe Sanders.
Walt Johnson, who had a bad game defensively but a very good one with the bat, hit a sizzling ground ball that was fielded by second baseman off his chest enabling Hughes to score.
2-0 Colorado.
Johnson's two base throwing error in the 6th put Spencer on second. Jimmy White's one out single scored him to make the score 2-1.
Then a two run eight put Atlanta ahead 3-2. It began when Barazza booted a groundball hit by White. Tom Lovelace double scored White tying the game 2-2. Johnson's second error put Atlanta in front 3-2.
Johnson had an answer for his defensive lapses, his booming bat. A line drive single and a stolen base did a lot to make him feel batter. Catcher Larry Garrett doubled to score Johnson with the tying run.
Then the wheels began to turn.
Earl Fitzgerald replaced Rob Soto on the mound for Atlanta.
Danny Mueller pinch ran for Garrett and Tony Caudill pinch hit for pitcher Bill Campbell.
Caudill singled in Mueller with the go-ahead run (4-3).
Tony Shwinieke hit his 2nd homerun of the season, a two run shot made it 8-3 and put the game out of reach.
Bill Campbell got the win (4-1) Rob Soto (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
