The Colorado Mockingbirds came to tinsel town and were not blinded by the big city lights and the throng of stars and starlets that turned out for the photo-op other wise known as a baseball game taking place in front of them.
The visitors thrashed the home team 10-5 in game one. Colorado starting pitcher Paul Golden took advantage of ten runs of support to go the distance to up his record to 3-1.
Los Angeles took game two by a score of 7-3. Brooks Bates (6-2) outpitched Jim Brandon (4-1) who suffered his first loss of the season.
The set up a rubber game in the final but like they did in the first game the Mockingbird hitters took charge early and never looked back.
Bobby Newkirk stated for Colorado and he also went the distance (12 hits 3 runs 5 strikeouts 5 walks.)
Colorado scored a single run in the third inking. Joe Cockman walked catcher Larry Garrett to start the inning. Pitcher Bob Newkirk's bunt attempt was scored a base hit when Cockman failed to field it cleanly just inside the foul line.
George Mangan homered for Los Angeles with no one on in the 4th inning.
Colorado had a pair of four run innings to blow this one open.
The 6th was the first. Barraza singled to start it. Willie Hughes walked. Bob Lynn singled past third. (Barraza scored) Avery Granlich singled in Hughes. Rookie Walt Bishop doubled in two runs (Lynn and Granlich)/
The Birds were right back at it in the 7th.
Newkirk, the pitcher, had a lead off single. Barraza trip-led driving him in. Harold Parent doubled in the fourth run.
Johnson added a two run homerun in the 9th to complete the shellacking.
Colorado leaves LA with a two game lead.
