The American League pennant race is simmering. First place Boston (24-12 leads Baltimore by two games but that lead is still tenuous although Boston is hot having won seven of ten and two straight. Baltimore is putting the pressure on by winning nine of ten and seven straight.

Boston dealt New York its sixth straight defeat. Charlie Brockmiller (3-1) recorded eight strikeouts over eight inning allowing only two hits. Paul Pepper took the loss (1-4().
Boston won its second straight and dealt New York its sixth straight loss.

A six run 10th inning blew open a close game. Fred Mack was the hitting star driving in six runs for the winners with a triple and two homeruns including a grand slam.

Ed Alexander (3-2) threw a five hit complete game shutout with nine strikeouts.
Bo Welzer singled in two runs in the bottom of the first off Jack Oosteen (LP 4-3).
Ken Johnson's RBI double and Scott Cooper's two run homerun put the game on ice.

Shutouts were the order of the day as Colorado's Harry Cheney tossed a three hitter over eight innings.
Lance Holbert garnered his tenth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Although Cheney recorded nine strikeouts good defense also play a key role in the victory.
Cheney walked Freddie Stewart to start the game then second baseman Jimmy Stahl (playing his very first game at second) fielded Buddy Ausanio's groundball and started a double play.
Later in the ninth inning regular second baseman Bobby Lynn, in for defense, started a one out double play behind closer Lance Holbert to end the game.
Harold Parent's solo homerun in the 4th inning provided Cheney with the only run he needed, but he contributed a RBI infield single in the 4th driving in Avery Gradlich from third. Grandich had singled.
Tony Shwinieke singled in Walt Johnson with an additional insurance run in the 7th.
