Right hander Jim Brandon picked up the road win going 6.1 innings giving up 5 hits 3 runs 6 walks 7 strikeouts. The high number of walks meant bullpen help was needed and Dennis Leheny came on for 1. innings (1 hit 2 walks 2 strikeouts) and Jesus Wagner for 1.1 innings (1 hit) giving the bullpen another good outing under its belt.
Colorado scored a run in the first inning off Montreal's Starting pitcher Bill Valdez.
Jacinto Barraza singled and Jimmy Stahl doubled in the run. 1-0 Colorado.
Montreal rallied in the third inning. Brandon walked Jesse Mills with one out. Dave Vaughn singled sending Mills to third. A sacrifice fly by Jason Roberts got Mills in to tie the score 1-1.
In the Colorado fourth the Mockingbirds raked Valdez for three hits and two runs to take a 3-1 lead. Willie Hughes singled, stole second went to third on a throwing error on Montreal catcher Luis Dorscher and then scored on a single by Tony Shwienieke. Shwinieke stole second as well, and he sored on a single by Walt Johnson.
Montreal fought back once again in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score 3-3.
John Kellett hit his second homerun of the season and Mills singled in Giles with the tying run.
Colorado took the lead once again in the sixth.
Hughes hit his seventh homerun putting the Birds ahead 4-3. Walt Johnson reached on an error by pitcher Bill Valdez. Tom Smalley singled. Catcher Joe Fiene's sacrifice fly drove in Johnson.
Colorado 5-3 final.
