Congrats to the 2018 JML HOF Class

May 24, 2017 at 02:03AM View BBCode

First off, I'd like to thank all of the 8 owners that participated by submitting ballots. It took 6 votes to reach the induction qualifier of 75%.

Here are the results:

Those "automatically" enshrined:
N/A

Those voted in (# of votes):
[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10846572]Del Schorr[/url] (8) - A #1 overall pick that ended up being worth the hype. Integral to Chicago's 2 championships. Had a relatively short window of success, but was serviceable in the beginning and end of career.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10684756]Chet Donnelly[/url] (8) - It's fitting that Donnelly and Schorr are going into the HOF together. Both were "can't miss" starting pitchers. Both spent their entire careers with Chicago (AL). Both ended up with 2 WS rings and 2 Cy Young. I'm going to be controversial and say Donnelly was the better pitcher. Chet went 9-3 in the playoffs, and Del ended up 3-9. Just kidding. Del ended up being the tough luck kid in the playoffs. Considering his ERA in the playoffs was 3.32 compared to Chet's 4.04, you have to wonder if there was a conspiracy or something going on.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9172740]Casey Harris[/url] (8) - I won't even try to appear unbiased; I'm ecstatic Harris is finally getting in after being on a ton of ballots. Detroit doesn't have very many HOFers, and Harris was one of the best during his peak. You would be hard pressed to find a more dominant stretch of 4 years than Harris' 1998-2001. Thanks to all of the voters who saw the light!

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10684759]Bill Murphy[/url] (7) - One of Wookieboy's aces. Winning 3 Cy Young Awards is a great accomplishment. Being a part of 3 championships isn't too bad either. He had a lot of middling seasons partly because of bad luck/tough competition, but he was rarely below average.

[url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9682842]Jim Gardner[/url] (6) - Well, vikball can finally sleep easy at night. It took 4 ballots, but the JML career leader in stolen bases is now officially part of the Hall of Fame. Little known fact, Gardner won 2 rings but was not at all responsible for the fact his teams won. The 1992 ring came at a point when he was quite a way from contributing value for Chicago, and the 2009 ring came in the twilight of his career while with Seattle. I'm not going to say he was the best leadoff hitter in JML history, but he deserves to be included in the discussion.

Those who will appear on the ballot again (# of votes, 2018 %, 2016 %):
Bill Khalifa (4, 50, 36.4)
Steve McCormick (3, 37.5, 18.2)
Kurt Harris (2, 25, N/A)
Ed Maddox (1, 12.5, 18.2)
Jason Bosch (1, 12.5, N/A)
J.R. Richard (1, 12.5, N/A)

Those who have been on 6+ ballots, but have seen an increase of support from the 2016 results. They will continue to need to improve to stay on future ballots:
Bob Buchanan (4, 50, 36.4) +13.6%
John Allerdyce (4, 50, 36.4) +13.6%

I am going to drop these players off future ballots for reasons noted so that crowding does not get worse:
Doc Tomberlin (4, 50, 63.6) -13.6%
Duke Mulvey (4, 50, 54.5) -4.5%

Those who failed to receive a vote and will have to be re-nominated to be placed on the ballot again:
Joe Sherry
Mike Crump
Ducky Pettee
Fred Pena
Dan Malis
Gus Mahaffey
Jimmie Smalls

Thanks again for your participation,
Michael
