Texas is looking very strong in the early days of September, getting good hitting from several players at the top of the league in several hitting categories and good pitching as well.
Dick Brohamer, 7-12 4.12 in 34 games out of the bullpen last season, has bettered that this season going 8-1 with a 3.74 ERA in the same amount of games this season.
Brohamer took over for starter Billy Hawkins after the seventh inning Hawkins logged seven innings allowed four hits no runs walked two and fanned seven.
Cap Stanley's 10th homerun of the season came in the ninth inning off starter and loser Jim Pena. it was the only run of the game.
Texas at 33-25 leads struggling Washington, 31-27 two games back and the hard charging Toronto Conquistadors, 30-28, winners of seven of their last ten games, and Baltimore (two straight wins), by three games.
Boston, Tampa Bay, Kansas City and New York all lost. That was the third straight loss for the Yankees.

Washington's struggles have been the result of a lack of scoring. The Senators lost five straight to fall out of first place, then were swept at home by Baltimore.
Now embarked on a six game road trip that got off to a rough start in Tampa Bay with them losing that series two games to one they have picked up a desperately needed victory in Boston.
Washington starting pitcher Ernesto Espinoza evened his record at 5-5 going six innings giving up twoc runs on four hits walking three and striking out seven.
Ray Penn, one inning, Rich Sphere, 1.2 innings two hits one run, and Pete Moore, got the last two outs in the ninth for his seventh save.
Aaron Wilson's bat came alive for two hits, the first was his third homerun of the season with two on in the first inning. staked the Senators to a 3-0 lead.
Tim Grogan doubled in the second inning and scored on a throwing error by Boston third baseman Bill Ball.
4-0 Washington.
Washington added runs in the fifth and eighth innings and held on for a 6-3 much needed win.
