If you give the bunch in Colorado a smidgen of hope they will leap over walls to enhance things and make as the British say ''a go of it.''
The Mockingbirds buoyed by their recent surge on the field made a trade with old rivals Brooklyn to get a replacement for injured Jay Bottorini and plucked thirty five year old veteran Kettle Berra from the Brooklyn bullpen.
Brooklyn first announced the trade that they had sent outfielder Phil Wise and relief pitcher Kettle Berra to Colorado for utility guru jimmy Stahl, infielder Scott Anderson and relief pitcher Dave Edmonds.
Wise hit .250 in 1950 in 25 games, and .283 in 19 games this season. Wise is a good defensive outfielder who has never made an error in the major leagues and has a .308 lifetime average against left handed pitching enabling him to fill in for Willie Hughes who has hit only .129 against lefties this season and .234 lifetime.
Berra was a 1951 All Star when he went 10-2 in 42 games with a 2.56 ERA and is 0-3 with one save and a 4.22 ERA.
Stahl is best remembered for hitting .287 in 56 games and playing eight different positions. Since then his hitting has fallen off and his playing time has diminished.
Anderson, 27 years old, hit .143 in 16 games for Colorado earlier this season and Dave Edmonds has a 2-1 record and a 7.45 ERA in 13 career games.
