Right hander Ken Hoffmen (6-4 3.39) went seven and one third innings allowing just three hits and two runs recording eight ground outs, nine fly outs one line out, two pop outs and two strikeouts while walking two to supply what was needed.
Nick Carter, Atlanta's starter, surrendered two runs on four hits in a long first inning for him. Carter walked lead off batter Jacinto Barraza who stole his league leading 23rd base and Willie Hughes drove him in with a single
Tony Shwinieke rapped into a 6-4-3 double play to quite things down but Carter still could not get out of the inning.
Carter issued his second walk of the inning to Harold Parent and Walt Johnson both followed with two out two strike singles that got Parent in with run number two of the inning. After Johnson stole second (8th), Frank Jestadt struck out to finally end the first inning.
It was smooth sailing for Hoffman who pitched a no hitter his rookie season. Hoffman retired the first eleven batters before walking Greg Smith with two outs in the fourth inning.
Colorado added two more runs in the third inning when Willie Hughes singled and Tom Smalley hit his 6th homer of the season with two outs.
Hoffman, a pretty good hitter, singled off Ernie Clemenson to start the 7th inning and Hughes (7th) hit Colorado's third two run homerun of the game to make it 6-0.
Atlanta's Tom Lovelace broke up Hoffman's no hitter with a lead off single in the bottom of the seventh, Jim Lee followed with the Braves second hit, and one out later Freddie Stewart singled home Lovelace.
Rusty White walked to load the bases and Tony Gwynn's sac-fly scored Lee.
Kettle Berra fresh off a lot of work in the St Louis series came in with one out and two on and retired Jim Brinker on a ground out and Fred McKay on a called third strike to leave two big runners stranded on base.

Montreal kept St Louis' on the downward spiral with a 6-5 triumph. it was St Louis' fourth straight loss.
Brooklyn 7 Los Angeles 1 and Pittsburgh edged Houston 3-2.
Colorado added a run in the top of the ninth and Atlanta scored two in the bottom of the ninth and had things stirring when Lance Holbert to put out the fire and claim his 16th save.
