Colorado journey to Houston after getting booed at home losing two of three to los Angeles and the Mockingbirds won the opener 2-1 but scored only two runs on the 10 hits the collected off Starting pitcher Chris Livengood and reliever Bob Millar, the loser (6-3).

Houston took a 1-0 lead on a walk and two singles off Paul Golden in the second inning. Arnold Warner's single drove in Colonel McIntyre.

Harold Parent socked his 13th homerun far over the left field wall to tie the game 1-1.

Golden ran into a bit of trouble in the eighth inning after he hit the lead off batter, Cecil Bryant, to start the inning. Bob Lynn forced Bryant at second and then advanced on a ground out that was the second out of the inning and the last for Golden who was replaced by veteran Jim Brandon.

Brandon got the final out of that inning and was rewarded with a win he failed to get after being hit hard in his last start.

Good fortune smiled on Brandon when Willie Hughes blasted his 10th homerun of the season giving Colorado a 2-1 lead that Lance Holbert (19 saves).

Hughes' homerun was his fifth after the seventh inning this season.

Brooklyn 8 St Louis 2

Chet Douglas (10-3) the best pitcher in the league this season outpitched Ed Alexander (7-5) to continue the struggles of the Perfectos.

Scott Cooper homered in the first inning for the Perfectos but they scored only one more run off Douglas on nine total hits.

Brooklyn tied the game in the bottom of the first inning on a single by Joe Meakim.

Meakim added a two run triple in the 3rd to put Brooklyn ahead 3-1, had a two run single in Brooklyn's four run sixth inning that blew the game open.

Los Angeles 8 Montreal 4

Los Angeles took over first place by taking two of three from Colorado in Denver and upon returning home to Dockers Stadium in sunny LA before a jubilant crowd won the first game of a series with Montreal.

Verle Oliveras hit a lead off homerun in the eighth inning, Adrian Matchick and Todd Reed had RBI doubles and George Mangan singled in a run to put the game safely in the win column.

Atlanta 4 Pittsburgh 2

Hank Spencer (two runs) and Jim Lee (solo) homered for Atlanta in the eighth inning for the Braves to led them to the win.
