Toronto and Anaheim undefeated after three games...

The Toronto front office never sleeps. While the team has opened the season and a nine game home stand by sweeping Chicago the front office perceived a need for another infielder and they went out and got All Star shortstop Marty Slager.

Toronto sent three players, minor league pitcher Jimmy Spillner, and outfielder Shinichi Sumitomo to St Louis for Clagle.

Against Chicago in the finale of the three game series, the Blue Jays sent former Cy Young Award winner, George Twombley, to the mound for the first time since he suffered a severe ankle injury entering the dugout during a game.

Twombly missed all of the playoffs as a result and his contribution was missed.

Twombly allowed six hits over nine innings. he gave up just two hits over the first six innings. Both of those hits were by Steve Braun, a two out double in the third, and a lead off single in the sixth inning.

Catcher Tony Nicholson hit a two run homerun in the second inning off B. J. Hook.

Twombly had just one bad inning, the seventh, when he gave up when he walked Sammy Wright, and gave up singles to Pete Hughes, Darrell Johnson, and Jose Stienecke that resulted in two runs tying the game 2-2.

Toronto scored the winner in the bottom of the ninth. Old Reliable Harry Bradley singled leading off. Jim Hague waited out a nine pitch walk.

White hit a weak bouncer to the right of the mound and gave pitcher Dick Kane. Marty Slagle, just acquired drove in the winning run with a grounder to second baseman Sammy Wright, who threw home too late to get Harry Bradley.

Toronto wins 3-2.

Melvin Wheeler went eight shutout innings allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out seven.

John Bahr hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the game's only run on the score board.

Tampa 10 New York 0

After Joe Stephenson came within one out of no hitting them Tampa Bay scored ten runs on eleven hits in the finale of their three game series.

Bob Boyd allowed just four hits over his nine innings walked three and struck out eleven.

Anaheim stayed perfect with a 5-3 win over 5-3 win over Kansas City.
