Game one of three went to the streaking Dodgers 5-4. It was the eleventh straight win for the Dodgers who now have a two game lead over Kansas City and are assured of at least being tied for first when this series is over.

The Dodgers are now 17-11 (.607) on the road and have a 28-8 (.778) home slate.

Kansas City with the loss is 23-8 at home and 20-13 on the road.

The Dodger win evened the season series between the two teams a 5-5. Kansas City has scored 52 runs on a very tough Dodger pitching staff while the Dodgers have scored 41 runs.

Ed Fryman made his presence known early in this one. The Dodger first baseman took a twelve game hitting streak into the game. During his now 13 game streak Fryman has hit .429 with four homeruns and 12 runs batted in.

His .342 batting average average, 14 homeruns, and 19 stolen bases all lead the league. He is second in hits (75) and runs scored (47) and 3rd in RBI (40).

Fryman batted against Steve Koslo with two out and two on in the first inning and his long drive to left field carried over 400 feet to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.

Kansas City cut that lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Steve Henry had once of his toughest innings over the six and two thirds innings he pitched.

Butch Duncan singled with one out. Henry walked Bud McKay with two outs and Joel Castro followed with a run scoring single.

Los Angeles added to their lead with single runs in both the 4th and 5th innings.

Fryman doubled moved to third on a ground out and scored on a deep sacrifice fly by Frank Hodges. (4-1)

Claude McAvoy tripled and scored on a ground out by Jim Onslow in the 5th to give LA a 5-1 advantage.

Things got a little more interesting in the 7th inning when Kansas City chased Henry and scored three times to cut the lead to one; 5-4.

Henry allowed a lead off single to George Worrell and then walked McKay and Castro to load the bases. Steve Knepper doubled in all three runners.

Jim Browder cam in to get the final out of that inning leaving Knepper on base.

Browder continued to pitch the eighth inning as well before turning things over to Ron Blaszkowski for his 19th save.

Henry got the win and is now 3-0.
