The great race in the American League continues. Anaheim and Washington currently are tied for the top spot after fifty five games played with identical 32-23 records (.582).

New York trails them by one game; 31-24, Boston 30-25 (.545) is two games behind and Detroit is next at 28-27 (.509).

Texas and Los Angeles at 23-32 are nine games off the pace and Toronto is in the basement with a 21-34 (.382) record.

Anaheim shutout Boston 6-0 to pull the plug on a two game losing streak.

Anaheim ace Eddie Shopay went nine shutout innings allowing just five hits one base on balls and he had six strikeouts.. Shopay is now 9-2, most wins in the league and his 1.93 ERA is also the best in the AL.

Anaheim took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run scoring single by Bobby Bostick.

The Gold struck for another run in the 3rd inning on a solo homer by Lee Davis. 3-0 Anaheim.

Shopay had a RBI single in the three run 7th inning and pinch hitter Bing Umbach singled in the other run off reliever Rusty Woods.

6-0 Anaheim. Final.

Washington 2 New York 1 10 Innings

Washington has two rather interesting stats. Their pitching staff has the most complete games; 18 in both leagues but they also have played the most extra inning games; 10.

The Senators are 7-3 in those games at this point after downing the Yankees in ten innings on a run scoring double in the bottom of the tenth by Gene Hutton. Hector Cortez scored the winning run after he reached on a fielder's choice.

Washington scored first in the second inning on a solo homerun by third baseman Larry Fear.

The Yankees knotted the game up in the top of the fourth inning on a Oscar Lydy ground out.

Chris Bumbry, Washington third pitcher used got the win (2-1) when he got the final out of the tenth inning.

Fletcher Meche started for Washington and pitched seven innings giving up jusdt three hits and one run (earned) one walk and recorded eight strikeouts; five swinging, three called.

Wes Conger worked two and two thirds innings (two hits, no runs, one strikeout.)

Detroit 19 Los Angeles 11

This is a baseball score, not football.

Detroit had a total of 19 hits and 19 runs. The Hawks total of 11 runs on 16 hits made it a total of 30 combines runs on 35 combined hits, the most in the league this season.

Los Angeles hit two homers in the game; Ray Distel hit his 11th and drove in four runs scored three runs on four hits.
John Hooper hit his 5th homerun and drove in three runs.

Pitcher Arlie Roenicke of Los Angeles' second pitcher in the game was blasted for 10 runs on seven hits over just two innings (15.40 ERA).

The winning pitcher, Ralph Chouneau went 6.1 innings and his line was also unimpressive; 12 hits 10 runs 5 walks 3 strikeouts is now 6-5.

Second baseman Joe Delahanty was four for six scored three times and drove in five runs hitting his 9th homerun and driving in his 28th run of the season with his five RBI.

Herb Hale had four hits in six at bats scored five runs and drove in five as well with three homeruns in the game giving him seven for the season and his five RBI gave him a total of 27.

Detroit had three five run innings; the 1st, 3rd and 4th.

Los Angeles scored eight times in the 7th inning when Distel and Hooper hit their homers.
