Milwaukee's 2022 Season was truly bizarre

September 07, 2017 at 02:12AM View BBCode

Hard to believe that basically the same roster lost 96 games last season under [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/owner.jsp?owner=junghwaowh]junghwaowh[/url]'s stewardship. I'm so used to real-life owners that manage the dead cat bounce that occurs when a bunch of guys all have career seasons out of nowhere. In honor of that, I'd like to list my top 5 ridiculously lucky seasons DynastyBot managed to luck into:

5) [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=11356860]Harvey Bailey[/url] - I realize if Bailey was ever going to have a decent season, it would likely come at the end of his possible improvement cycle. A+/B pitchers are obviously capable of a nice season like Bailey's had at age 34, but he has hardly ever been much more than a capable 5th starter for Milwaukee in past seasons.

4) [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=11715477]Del Crandall[/url] - Yeah, he ain't an All-Star, but take it from someone who's tried to get by with below average guys at catcher: 67 RBIs while providing Gold Glove quality defense is a damn fine season to squeeze out of a guy like Crandall. This might not even end up his best season statistically speaking, but I wouldn't expect much more in the next 4 seasons.

3) [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=12203241]Matt Kemp[/url] - Kemp isn't listed so much for his poor skills. He actually looks like he'll could likely end up being a fairly nice bat in the longterm. Nope, the reason I've added is because the DynastyBot's AI seemed to almost accidentally have him playing at the Major League level. It looks like he came up in May as an injury replacement, and then the DynastyBot made the smart move of sending down some below average bats and promoting Kemp for the rest of the season. I'm usually perplexed by most of the moves made by D-Bot ownership, but this one turned out to be golden. I know you can't exactly just extrapolate his stats, but if he were to have played at the same level for the whole of 2022, he'd likely not only be the ROY but also the starting LF All-Star. Not bad for a 23 year-old that tend to get off to bumpy starts 9 times out of 10.

2) [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=11900446]Vinny Castilla[/url] - The old owner sure gave Vinny Castilla's namesake out to a strange code bit. Those old enough to have remembered old Vin would be likely to say the 2nd incarnation of his likeness has quite a different set of skills. Castilla is probably best remembered as the mashing 3B for the first bunch of Colorado Rockies teams. Not exactly the speedy SS type. Funny thing is I can remember Vinny being a skinny SS-prospect with the Atlanta Braves before he was taken by Colorado in the expansion draft. I've noticed jungewaowh seems to have a soft spot for former/current Braves. If he picked this guy to take on Vinny's namesake based on his early expectations as a Braves prospect, he's definitely a true student of the game. Of course, I could be overanalyzing things. Either way, he's basically been a garbage-fire during his previous seasons. This season he basically performed about as well as a guy with green power can be expected to. He wasn't a special leadoff hitter, but he managed to be good enough for an already below average lineup.

1) [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=11900459]Bobby Avila[/url] - How in the hell this joker went from a defensive specialist to a legit bat for Milwaukee is a freaking miracle. He'll finish with an OPS above .830 after hitting like a pitcher in the first 5 years of his major-league career. I doubt he would have gotten more than 300 PA if DynastyBot didn't instinctively play him for development purposes. Funny thing is, normally they hit like garbage and sink the DynastyBot's team chance of competing. This guy was a freaking stud when he should have performed like a mess.

Hopefully this will help ease the sting of the season for Montreal and Chicago. My Boston squad flopped big time in the 2nd half of this season, but at least they are going to be blocked by either a "very legit but aging" Toronto squad or an "already starting to blossom but destined to be even better in the future" Cleveland squad. I'm sure 2022 will be one of those seasons all the NL-owners other than machoking will want to forget.

Haha, this did actually help with the sting. Thanks.

"Either way, he's basically been a garbage-fire during his previous seasons." was my favorite part (especially since is followed the lengthy bit about naming conventions, which I also liked).

Good luck to all playoff teams not from Milwaukee!!

And their run continues. How do they do it? Does having dynasty bot run your team add to player ratings? I am just dumbfounded how well they just opened a can of whoop arse on my Halberds. If some could explain i would appreciate the input.

It's not even playing the best lineup. Crazy. We will see if my team can prevent a travesty.

The karma police just keep overcorrecting. This one comes from your Halberds' upset of Washington in the World Series last postseason. If Washington defeats Milwaukee, it will return sanity to this wacky world we are living in. If Milwaukee wins, we will know we are truly living in the "darkest timeline".

Noooooooooooooo! Why? Has anyone ever seen a DynastyBot win a ring before? Apparently it has happened 95 times already.

Go Washington!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please!!!!

I agree. It is a travesty that 15 owners can not beat a stupid bot.

Not sure if I'm proud or mad. I ran that team off and on for nearly 20 seasons and noth'n. Much of the title team are guys I brought in or drafted. Now if I would have just stayed, could I have lead this team as well and got my first league title here... Probably not. I read the great break down above. So many average joe guys had career years at the same time. I'm not that lucky...

In case anyone doesn't know about the "darkest timeline", it's from an episode of "Community" where the study group is playing some dice game and at the end they all realize the consequences from the worst of the 6 alternate timelines.

[url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOrhnWgOFGg]This one[/url] is amazing too.

Somehow, the Joe Medwick League has entered our darkest timeline and Milwaukee is now our evil overlord.

Not to make you feel bad or anything, lyle, but clearly you just didn't understand the magical power of renaming much of the roster to ex-Bravo greats like Doyle Alexander, Glenn Hubbard, and Jeff Francoeur. Honestly, if junghwaowh had just stayed around to rebuild his roster around quality code-bits named after ex-Braves legends, renaming all of the initial scrubs would have seemed awesomely-meta.

lyle, did you see the 2020 season [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=11715437]Tommy Hanson[/url] had after you left? That season was bizarre as there were two other NL starting pitchers that had insanely great stats, but as you can see Hanson won the ERA and WHIP title. The single season ERA was the 9th best of all-time and the WHIP was the 22nd best ever. SimDynasty obviously wants to trick you into thinking you need to come back. It's like when in Vegas some schmuck wins the jackpot on the slot machine right after you walk away!

LOL

I just noticed you really did purchase Milwaukee. Welcome back, lyle.

The upside is that now you can sell us all on how your code bits really "know how to win". They've got that x-factor like Scott Brosius or David Freese. Should be good for adding an extra 2nd rounder to every trade, at the least!
