Ordonez has signed a 5 year $75 million contract with the Tigers. That's more money than fellas like Beltre, Drew, Sexson, and Delgado got. I know the Tigers were desperate, but this deal is ridiculous. It won't be formally announced until MondayFebruary 06, 2005 at 03:36AM View BBCode
Ordonez gets a $6 million signing bonus, $6 million this year, $15 million in 2006, $12 million in 2007, $15 million in 2008 and $18 million in 2009. Detroit has a $15 million option for 2010 with a $3 million buyout and a $15 million option for 2011 with no buyout. The option years would become guaranteed at $18 million in 2010 and $15 million in 2011 if he has 135 starts or 540 plate appearances in the previous season or 270 starts or 1,080 plate appearances in the previous two seasons. The deal can be voided after 2005 if Ordonez spends more than 25 days on the DL because of knee injuries.February 06, 2005 at 07:41AM View BBCode
Or possibly we shall see another Nancy Kerrigan incident...February 06, 2005 at 06:44PM View BBCode
I predict they won't need to pull any tricks out of the bag. Mags knee is worse than many believe according to talk radio in Chicago. That is why there wasn't great interest in him on the part of many teams.February 09, 2005 at 04:14PM View BBCode
People around town were saying the Cubs should sign him for a year and see if he's healthy... I figured teams were staying away because he was either not healthy or wanted too much money. It seems that the thought of signing him for a year or two was probably never really possible, although the Tigers basically can void the deal if he isn't healthy... Of course, if he gets injured any other way, the deal stands.Pages: 1
