Are baron or mashburn even healthy? I cant remember correctly but they have been plagued with injuries these last couple years. But its great to see baron back in cali where he belongs. I think he will step it up a few notchs playing back in his home state.

The Knicks made some incredibly retarded moves. They are going nowhere but they added about 20 million in payroll and the players they got aren't even worthy of starting. And the draft picks they got aren't very good either. They got Phoenix's number one which will be like the 29th pick, Houston's #1 which will be in the lower 20's, and San Antonio's first rounder next year which very well could be the last pick in the first round. Chances are you aren't going to get any game changing players at those slots. Sure the players they gave up werent that good but they added all that payroll and got worse players in return. I like San Antonio's end of the deal though. They get rid of Rose who has a very large contract for a player of his caliber and they get Mohammed who is averaging 11 points and 8.5 rebounds a game. He will probably only play about 20 minutes a game for them but he will provide a lot of shot blocking and some rebounding. He can guard the big men in the West like Garnett and Stoudamire and can help Duncan out alot especially on the boards and on the defensive end.
Van Horn will be a sixth man type player for the Mav's. I think he would fit nicely in that role but Dallas needs to be careful. They always seem to end up with a lot of very similar players that can't matchup well with some of the more powerful players in the West. They already have Dirk, Stackhouse, Daniels, Howard, and now Van Horn. They want to avoid a situation like last year when they had Dirk, Walker, Jamison, etc. and weren't able to get enough minutes for all of those guys. I do think that they are a more balanced team this year though.

Isn't there some way that instead of a trade deadline, they could just have an NBA deadline...The NBA closes at midnight tonight!!
Personally, I think the NBA and the NHL ought to both shorten their seasons (assuming the NHL ever comes back). With baseball going till November and football going till February, couldn't both these seasons be shortened?
The year of the NBA strike, when they didn't start until after Christmas, was great! Hockey could open at Thanksgiving, but must end before baseball opening day. Basketball opens after the final BCS bowl game, but has to be finished by May 15.
Last year I watched the NBA finals with my nephew (he's a fan...I could've cared less, except I wanted ANYBODY to beat the Lakers) and if I'm not mistaken it was closer to July 4th than it was to Memorial Day. Something's just wrong with hockey in May and basketball in June (almost July).

The Mohammed trade was a good one for the Spurs, but I'm kind of sad to see Malik Rose leave. While he wasn't great, he came up pretty big for the Spurs at times and he had become a favorite player of most here. That was why he had a pretty stupid contract. Hopefully Mohammed starts over Necrapobitch now. Once again, the Spurs should trade Nesterovich for Earl Boykins. And now that they have a center, they could actually do it.

Aslong as Doc keeps 'Toine under control with his shot selection, and he rebounds then they Celtics STOLE him from Atlanta. Plus they are gonna get Payton back anyway, the Hawks are gonna buy him out, and he is gonna (hopefully) sign a 2 year extension.
Zeke is 'tarded. The Knicks will have cap room when I collect my social security. (Long-Ass-Time)

This was a horrible trade. Van Horn scores and thats it. Dallas doesnt have a problem scoring points if you havent noticed. They need some D or a real point. They got niether and they went and got something they already have. They picked up a big contract for some1 who they didnt need. FLOP.

Calvin Boothe is nothing. Henderson did ok for us but he is older than Van Horn and losing him isnt that big of a deal. We picked up his conract but big who cares, we are not in danger of taking on too much money. Our defense is improved from last year so saying Dallas has no D is false.
If Van Horn plays poorly than it may be considered a bad trade but not before he has a chance to prove himself in Dallas

Van Horn can do alittle bit of a lot of different things. There isn't one thing that he does real well. As long as he gives you effort you are good, if not then he is just another bad contract. Dallas gave up nothing to get him and apparently don't have any money concerns so I can't see how it is that bad of a deal for them. Van Horn didn't work out here in Jersey because he was being used as the first or second scoring option which is something he can't handle. He will most likely be the seventh man in Dallas' rotation which is a role that he is much better suited for.

So why go after a 7th man when they have serious needs to addressl? It just doesnt make sense. van horn has had his moments but he is known for not being around at the end of the game and falling off.
I didnt say dallas has no D but i would surely say it is lacking to really contend in the west. What happens when dallas needs to give a hard foul? nobody on that team can give a hard foul. They are all finese players. Is dirk gonna throw an elbow into KG or Duncan? Nope.

What serious Needs? Not contend in the west?? Go look at their record. They would have beat the third best team in the league the other night but the ref made a horrible call to end the game.
Dampier filled the only serious need they had in the offseason which was a big man in the middle who could rebound, and if you think Dampier is a finesse player you should watch him play sometime. They have a mild need for Defense (less so than previous years) but I think this team has a decent shot at making the finals this year due to an improved D and they are scoring around the same pace in years past. The Spurs are still the favorites though no matter who Dallas picked up at the deadline.
Spurs/Mavs in the Western Conference finals this year.

YAZ is right. They don't really have any serious needs to address. Getting another good, tough big men to back up Dampier probably would be nice but it is certainly not a serious need. Van Horn can probably give them 10 points and 5 rebounds off the bench every night. He has some size so he can go inside (although that is not his biggest strength). Van Horn has been known to disappear in crucial moments in big games but that was when he was a #1 or #2 option with the Nets, Sixers, and Bucks. With all the scorers on the Mavs do you really think that he will be the guy that gets the ball in a crucial moment?
And Dirk probably won't be the one throwing an elbow into KG or Duncan, but Dampier will. Dampier is a premier shotblocker and rebounder. If you put him on Duncan who else is gonna beat you on the inside? Nestovich? Hell no. Same story for Minnesota. If you contain KG (which Dampier CAN do) who else is going to burn you on the inside? Certainly not Michael Olowakandi. Most teams in the West have one good big man. If you can contain that big man they don't have much else on the inside. If you are playing Phoenix if you can match up with Stoudamire (again Dampier is capable of this) who else do they have on the inside? Jake Voskuhl? Please.

Not possible, Spurs will be 1 seed and the Mavs will be 4, most likely. They'd play in the conference semis. But I do think that whoever wins will play the Heat or Pistons in the finals.

Nice analysis Skier.
Cubs, your right. Mavs will most likely get the 4th spot this year which means a probable date in the semis with SA.

No serious need? They dont have a real point guard. Why do you think they were trying to get kidd? Cuz they are lacking true point guard. Dampier contain duncan or KG? LOL. Thats some funny stuff. He isnt dominate to control them or stoudamire. Seeming the spurs picked up mohammed, thats another big man that dallas wont be able to contain.
Dirk is averaging more blocks than dampier. dampier plays less than half the game. Who is going to guard the big men the other half of the game? Thats when the big men will really dominate the game. Nesterovic is averaging more blocks than dampier is. So dampier is suppose to be the anchor on defense they are screwed.
You think they have a true #1? terry is isnt even averaging 5 assist a game. 11 points a game? i would have went after a much better point guard if i was mark cuban. terry isnt a horrible point guard or anything but i think they could have improved at that position.

Van Horn is an improvement over Henderson any way you look at it. As far as point guards go it would have been nice to get Kidd not so nice for what they would have asked however. I have no qualms about entering the playoffs with Terry, Armstrong, and Harris. Plus Howard and Daniels can run the point when necessary. As far as Dampier handling KG and Duncan well he is better suited than anyone Dallas has ever had to contain those two. KG will be lucky to make the playoffs and Duncan will be a true test when they meet in the playoffs. Nash will run down at the end of the season like usual but the Suns are not experienced enough to pick up the slack for him in the playoffs. So it will probably be SA in the finals again but they will have to go through Dallas first who is improved from last year.

I am not saying van horn isnt better than henderson. van horn is better. They made an improvement for sure but why improve the bench when they should address the needs of the starting 5? When in all actuality they should have just resigned nash. oh well.
I dont follow nash enough to know if he gets run down at the end of the season but even without nash the suns are dangerous. i cant remember exactly but i am pretty sure the suns did fairly well when nash sat out for a few games.

Nash is a stud. The suns are most certainly not a playoff team without him. But itt has been well documented here in Dallas that Nash is innefective for the most part in the playoffs because he was overrused in the regular season.
As far as adressing the needs of the starting 5 we would have needed to pick up Shaq or Kg or Duncan to deal with the other two because no one else can effectively handle thos three. So those teams have a decided advanatage. The best the other teams can do is improve their bench or improve their rebounding or scoring.
Plus, why would the Suns trade Kidd since carter is doing so well in NJ?

HUH? i dont know why the suns would trade some1 they dont have. Kidd was unhappy in NJ, i am unsure if he is still unhappy.
Your saying improve the bench but terry is just an average point. they should have went after a better point than improving the bench. oh well, they improved overall.
