what a crappy finals mvp. duncan did not deserve that award. the nba just threw up its hands and said, screw it, we'll just give it to their regular-season mvp.

True, but I've never really cared much for basketball, It's a somewhat flawed spectator sport that got too popular because of Jordan, it seems like something more deserving of fringe success to me.

does anyone REALLY give a flip about the NBA?

I would if they would sacrifice their egos and play a little more like college teams. So, no, not really.

It is pretty much like watching playground basketball.

I lost track of the NBA. I thought San Antonio and Detroit were playing preseason games. Doesn't the pre-season start next week? I don't know.

The playoffs last 7 months and the regular season means nothing. So I don't give a rip about the NBA. I don't think I know a single person who has watched an entire game from start to finish this year. The NBA is only useful for the ESPN highliht dunk. But people buy the jersey's so the NBA makes mony. And everyone is happy.

Does anyone else think it is rediculous that a series can last 2 weeks? I mean why does basketball need to have 7 games to determine the better team?

For the same reason baseball does I would assume.

There was nobody who deserved it, which was amazing. There wasn't one Spur who played more than 3 good games. I guess Horry was a candidate. Ginobili could have been too I guess .

And this is why I post very little in the general forums anymore. If you aren't with the masses then you and/or your comments get bashed.

Maybe I should have gone on to say I don't care too much for the NBA but you know what, the Spurs were in the finals so I watched.

Anyway, go 'Horns beat the $h!t out of Florida this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Besides which, I'm on your side. I watched the game, I like the NBA, I rooted for the Spurs, and I felt Duncan was the most deserving candidate for MVP. Everyone knows that the two sweetest words in the English language are De and Fault.

Ginobili was my favorite, and had a good game 7. But without Duncan being as assertive as he was, it would have been tougher for Ginobili to be as effective as he was.

So, I agree with Duncan being the MVP. He took control at crunch time. He may not have been the best in the earlier games, but he rose to the occasion in game 7. He refused to lose - the mark of a champion. And he's not even 30 yet!

Reminds me alot of Brad Dougherty. If he'd play just a bit meaner, he'd be unstoppable.

Swerve, you make the mistake that every post on a thread you start is directed towards you, and that is simply not the case.

Someone could post in response to the last post or just to randomly say something about the subject, but the people posting about the obvious flaws of the NBA game aren't doing it to make you look bad, sheesh...

Basketball rocks. If the Mavs were in the finals ( ha! ) than I would have been glued to the tube this year.

Hopefully Duncan, Parker, Bowen and Genobli retire this so the Mavs wiill have a shot

Duncan very nearly cost the Spurs Game 5. Without Robert Horry swooping in to make 85 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and in overtime, there is no Game 7 --- the Spurs lose in six. I think a Finals MVP can in rare occasions be decided based on a single outstanding performance in a pivotal game. In this series, Horry qualifies.

Almost everyone I know watches basketball, and for good reason. Maybe you are just stuck in a city with a crappy team?
