There's nothing wrong with a little variety, Furious. Hell, I heard there's a guy in Mississippi who likes *whisper* the Boston Red Sox!July 27, 2005 at 12:04AM View BBCode
Hey now.July 27, 2005 at 12:06AM View BBCode
This same article creeps up once a year, of course Manny wil also say in the next sentence that he LOVES being in Boston and would like to retire here. It just another case of " Manny being Manny". It all depends on what mood you catch him in. I've read so many articles about him that nothing surprises me and I'm sure not the team either.July 27, 2005 at 12:26AM View BBCode
Forget what he says, or does. Manny Ramirez is, year in and year out, one of the 5 best hitters in baseball.July 27, 2005 at 12:33AM View BBCode
Manny and his $20 million a year contract are going nowhere. They waived him last year and NOBODY, not even the Yankees opted to pick him up for nothing in return. He said on ESPN a few years ago that he'd like to play for the Yankees. That did not make Red Sox Nation happy but that's Manny being Manny. As long as he hits 45 homers a year, that's fine with us.July 27, 2005 at 12:37AM View BBCode
How about Burnitz and Patterson for Ramirez. Thats fair, right? :rolleyes:July 27, 2005 at 04:44PM View BBCode
anybody remember when they put Manny on waivers and nobody picked him up? THEY COULDN'T GIVE HIM AWAY! How does he expect to be traded if nobody would take him for free?July 27, 2005 at 04:45PM View BBCode
crap, FiveToolPlayer said the same thing I did. I guess I really should read the replies before posting.July 27, 2005 at 04:53PM View BBCode
The only way he goes is if the Sox eat half his contract, and they won't do that unless the haul is ridiculous. With that said, there is no chance he gets traded before the deadline. If at all, it'll be in the offseason.July 27, 2005 at 05:02PM View BBCode
No one picked him up because they'd have to take his entire contract on without either a) getting the Sox to chip in on some of it or b) dumping another big contract on the Sox to balance out the books. If the Sox were interested in trading Manny, they could possibly find a trading partner if they were willing to do either of those two things in return.July 27, 2005 at 05:27PM View BBCode
Sounds like a lose/lose situation for the Sox to meJuly 27, 2005 at 10:03PM View BBCode
The Sox aren't interested in trading Manny and I doubt Manny is really interested in being traded. He looks as happy as can be waving to the fans all the time, taking piss breaks in the monster just having fun from what I can see. From the reports I've heard this all stems from one incident a couple of days ago when a certain paper became overly obtrusive trying to find out if Mannys wife was pregnant. I can understand him being upset I would be too if strange people were butting into my personal life like that. It sucks but in Boston you have to take the good with the bad I guess. You get a packed house every night with adoring fans but you also get a-holes trying to peak in your windows at home and following you and your family around.July 29, 2005 at 07:25PM View BBCode
Yeah, he's not going anywhere. I heard a rumor that the Mets are willing to offer Mike Cameron, Kris Benson, and Braden Looper and could possibly expand that package to include Mike Piazza. That's an interesting proposition and while that does address several of the Red Sox needs losing Manny and the position shuffling that they would have to do to accomodate the new players would open up new holes and not really solve too much.July 29, 2005 at 09:22PM View BBCode
Wade Miller was scratched from today's start to "rest" his shoulder. I wonder if that means he's headed somewhere else. As for Manny, the media is probably blowing this out of proportion. Manny said something to one reporter and it snowballed. Harold Reynolds (I think) had an interesting conspiracy theory saying that it might be a smokescreen to that when they do trade Manny, the backlash will be at Manny, not the organization. Last year, when they traded Nomar, there was a lot of public talk about how he refused to pinch hit in a crucial game against the Yankees. When he was gone, a lot of fans (including myself) were sad to see him go but understood that his time with the Sox was up, especially after that well publicized incident.July 29, 2005 at 11:32PM View BBCode
Honestly, the more I hear about this over the last couple of days the more I think he really wants out.July 30, 2005 at 12:21AM View BBCode
I just heard he got traded to the Mets in a 3 way deal with the Rays. Boston, Tampa, and the Mets are in serious trade discussions in which New York would acquire Manny, Baez and Cameron to Boston, and 4 Minor League Prospects to Tampa Bay.July 30, 2005 at 12:34AM View BBCode
Cameron's not garbage offensively but he's not more than above average. Defensively though he is one of the best defensive centerfielders in the game. Also keep in mind that Cameron has played for Seattle and the Mets the past few seasons and both home parks are pitchers parks. He did hit 30 homers last year (though his OBP was only .319). This year he's hitting .265, only .243 at Shea but .294 on the road. He does whiff a lot and over the course of a full season could rack up about 150 Ks.July 30, 2005 at 12:36AM View BBCode
Compare him to Manny and he is garbage offensively. There will be a big void in their lineup with this trade if it happens.July 30, 2005 at 12:40AM View BBCode
A three-team trade involving the Devil Rays that would send Ramirez and Danys Baez to the Mets, Mike Cameron and Aubrey Huff to the Red Sox and prospects to the Rays is reportedly being discussed. Obviously, the Rays would want several top prospects to move both Huff and Baez in the same deal. Peter Gammons is reporting that a trade involving Manny and the Mets is unlikely. Still, it seems clear that there have been discussions.Pages: 1 2
