D-Rays, Indians, and trade deadline

I don't understand - why didn't they trade Baez and Huff yesterday? I assume that they will both be free agents at the end of the year, is that right?
As for my Indians - I think they still have a good shot at the wild card - particularly with their schedule and all these games left against Seattle and KC.
But if they fall out of it, I could see them still trading Milwood and/or Wickman before the next deadline if they fall out of the race. Particularly Millwood. Here's why - he makes 8 Million dollars. If someone claims him from waivers, I could see them just letting Millwood go to save the money for the rest of this season (might be about 1 mill). So hopefully the weaker teams are scared off and only a contender will claim him and a deal can be worked out.

The D-Rays are idiots. I'm not sure about contract situations of either player but if you believe the reports, they wanted to give up Baez (decent middle relief pitcher who happens to close on a crappy team) and Huff (guy who has struggled all year up until recently) and they wanted a couple of the very best prospects from the Mets and Red Sox. The Kazmir deal tainted their view of a reasonable trade. Not only did they not give up veterans for youth, they didn't clear the way for some of their current youth to get some major league playing time. They should be contracted simply for being idiots.
I read that the Yankees tried to get Kevin Milwood.
The market this year was a sellers market and the buyers weren't buying.

Getting a little off the main trade topic here Detroit did a smart move in sending Farnsworth to Atlanta. They had offers out to sign him (rumored at 15 mil for 3 years) and couldn't even get a reply from his agent as far as whether they were interested or not. So taking a chance on a couple kids made the most sense as even tho the rags up here have us trying to believe we have a chance for the wild card its all a pipe dream.
Colon could finally be the revenge for the Doyle Alexander/ John Smoltz trade back in 87. The trade that was the starting point to the demise of the Detroit team for the last couple decades. Minor has some upside but he needs some time and at best with luck may be a 5 guy but who knows what the future holds. Colon has alot of upside but better learn a couple more pitches if he can live up to expectations. A hard thrower (low to mid 90's) but with only a fastball and slider big leaguers could feast on him.
It will be a nice addition if he does become that for us as Bonderman is showing some nice things and minor leaguer and hard thrower Verlander (Mid to upper 90's) has been showing he can get the job done and has many teams looking hard at him and drooling. Some feel he may be up next season and has a good chance considering our woeful staff. Of course I could be having a pipe dream too desperate for a winner up here in the Motor City and fooling myself.

I was disappointed that the Indians didn't do something, but I can see why they didn't. I was just really hoping they couldve landed a bat of some sort. I doubt they can win the WC, even with their weak schedule.
Chuck LaMar is an absolute moron. His asking price for his players are ridiculously high and and unbelievably stupid. Mark Shapiro got so frustrated when dealing with him that he told everyone in the organization that he would no longer take calls from the Devil Rays because LaMar is such a moron.

Too many buyers, not enough sellers at the deadline. They should really think about moving the date more towards the middle of August when more teams know if they have a realistic chance at making the playoffs or not.

It's not just Chuck Lamar. The ownership is to blame as well, because they should have fired him a long time ago.
