Rumor of a lot more positive steroid test results

August 09, 2005 at 08:03PM View BBCode

"On ESPN and other media outlets, they have mentioned more positive results are coming.

Take this with a grain of salt, but a friend of mine called just now. He said that one of his in-laws talked to their doctor. This doctor works with ML players.

This doctor said that there are 56 more players that tested positive. And one of the players is bigger than Palmeiro. He also said this player is white. "

From another forum. Any speculation on the bigger than Palmeiro player? My guess is Clemens or Big Unit, maybe Giambi (but highly doubtful). They probably wouldn't announce Clemens' name even if he did test positive, though. His appeal will probably last the whole year then he'll just retire.

I think we have to take into account the possible interpretations of the 'bigger than' phrase. Does he mean physically? Popularity-wise? For the gay posters out there... *gasp* God's endowed blessing?

Seriously, though, I'm looking toward some of the younger players... Namely Adam Dunn. I don't really have a basis for it, aside from the fact that every time they show this guy hitting a long ball, it lives up to its name. I haven't once seen a peashooter skirt the top of the fence for Mr. Dunn one single time in all the games and highlights I have seen of him blasting a homerun.

Adam Dunn isn't a bigger name than Raffy. If its a bigname white guy I'd guess Clemens too, or maybe Piazza. That is of course if this is true.

I'd guess Clemens too, but I hope it's not the case since that would be completely disillusioning...

Depends on your conversational circles, I guess.

Let's see... There's Thome... Could a case be made about his possible use? I'd hate to see this go down, but Todd Helton, even after all of the denials he made earlier? That would crush my day to see Helton take a fall after several denials made when the rumor was started about him earlier in the season... But considering Palmeiro's recent misfortunes (I'm choosing a light description as opposed to the earthier "fuck - up") who can really tell, eh?

Candidates who fall under this particular rumor's speculation, considered that he is:

A) white
B) "bigger" than Rafael Palmeiro

Jason Giambi
Jim Thome
Roger Clemens
Randy Johnson
Mike Piazza
Todd Helton
Brian Giles

I don't care what you say about Helton, Giles or Thome, to me, these guys have a better recent track record as far as name recognition goes even if they weren't called to the Congressional hearing.

Lest we forget, Eric Gagne has to be on that short list...

Chris Carpenter, Jim Edmonds, Larry Walker, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Hank Blalock, Mark Texeira, Curt Schilling...

I think that they are 'injured' as often as they are only because they think Dusty Baker's breath smells like rotten turnips and will make every effort to avoid one of his visits to the mound.

In reference to syco's post, at least.

Of the recent additions to the list, Bagwell (as far as name recognition goes) has to be under the microscope.. But I doubt it's he.

Chipper, (is Jeter considered to be white)

I doubt they'd say a white guy if it was Jeter. Chipper isn't a bad one though.

My personal front runners would be: Bagwell, Piazza and Randy.

Greg Maddux (or does he get excluded because he doesn't throw over 90)

Let's not forget Kenny Rogers' recent mood swings.

That either means he's got rabies or the brain is rejecting the infusion of anabolics in to the bloodstream.

Hell, I really have no idea about the effects on steroids on the human psyche. I'm just trying to make Kenny Rogers out to be Bruce Banner.

I'd doubt it. Mostly because he doesn't throw over 90. Of course its possible, but I just doubt it.

Rogers is a good one, from what I've seen of him recently it does seem like he has been throwing harder than he use to, but theres no way he's bigger than Palmeiro.

Man, this is sad. This thread reads like a McCarthy speach. Has a rumor Marshall posted ever turned out to be true? :P

Let the posters shoot the shit.

Don't make me develop a forum constitution.

Yes. The Walker one (number one). And I think I may have posted the Indians signing Boone before it happened. So there.

0 chance its Maddux.

This source is about as good as Simones' cousins sister, whos brother in laws friends girlfriend that saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night.

No offense but I'll believe them when I read them in the paper.

Booyah:

The steroid rumor mill has been spinning out of control. More than 50 players tested positive, one megastar. Clubhouse talk. Maybe it's only a dozen, but there's a bigger name than Rafael Palmeiro. That's what's going around.

At this point, this is all nothing but idle speculation, seemingly exaggerated, since the executive council hasn't been notified, and those members had known for a long time about Palmeiro, Ryan Franklin and another player whose name will soon leak out.

Thats from Peter Gammons.

Good. I hope there are 150 players. I hope there are 5 to 10 stars from the mid 90's on. I want this entire last era of baseball to be thoroughly disgraced so we can forget about it and go on with our lives. I'm well aware that some players who did great things in this last era did them clean, but sorry--the users ruined it for everyone. I don't trust a single stat any of these players ever recorded. Someone put the asterisk back beside Maris' name, where it belongs. 61 is still the freakin' record.

This the Insider article? If it's not, can you post it where you found it? Because I can't find it...
