Yeah, adding two over-the-hill veterans doesn't guarantee them anything. Just ask the 2003-2004 Lakers.September 03, 2005 at 02:53AM View BBCode
The good thing about it is that if either one of them starts sucking or gets hurt, it really doesn't matter all that much. It doesn't help that much, but its nice to have them. If they need to, they can put together a whole bunch of weird looking combinations now too. But more than anything, having those two may scare Parker into playing well. Now they just have to trade Nesterovich and his 7 million a year contract for whatever they can get. I guess they could throw Udrih in too.September 03, 2005 at 03:35AM View BBCode
The difference between the Spurs and the 03-04 Lakers is that Finley and Van Exel will be bench/role players and not key pieces of the triangle. That and the Spurs are a younger team overall than the Lakers were. Finley and Van Exel will give the Spurs a consistent perimeter three point shooting threat that they haven't had. Finley has shot 41% over the last two or three years from behind the arc and 37% for his career. Van Exel shot 39% last year and almost 36% for his career.Pages: 1
