Mariucci Fired.

November 28, 2005 at 11:01PM View BBCode

Well as usual the incompetance of the upper management for the Detroit Lions again put the blame on the coach. I am not stating he wasn't part of the reason for our losing but the meddlesome few in ownership and the club pres Millin need to shoulder some responsibilty. Mooch when he first got here should have seen the handwriting on the wall when he wasn't allowed to use McMahon (definitely not the greatest option either) as the QB over Herrington. Since the early 60's when the Fords purchased them it has been pure hell on the fans with their incompetance and total confusion to what it takes to make a winner here.

Wonder if Mooch will get the same curse as all head coaches since the Fords purchased them, none have retained another NFL head coaching job

Well, it's not like SF turned around the franchise after they let Mariucci go, and expect similar from Detroit.

So, until the guy gets a real team, we'll never know how good a coach he is. I know Walsh didn't think he was 'tough' enough, & Millen is probably going the same route here, but sh&t is sh&t. You can't coach these teams to win, as both of them have inferior offensive & defensive lines.

Millen has now outlasted two coaches, which should be the death sentence for any general manager. Hire the first guy, the team sucks, move on. Hire the second guy, the team still sucks, maybe it's you.

The Lions need more than a QB. The O line sucks totally and The D has actually performed well under Jauron's leadership tho not consistently.

Actually Herrington tho not great has put up some decent numbers when facing mediocre defenses that cant dominate the line and he is given time to use his flat footed stare down my main reciever tactic he employs. No I am not a Joey fan either.

I also totally agree with you FG. The sad thing is if you look back Millin has only interviewed two coaches and hired both. Also lets not forget the Mooch hiring brought on some heat as he did not follow the leagues give a minority a chance to interview before you hire some one.

mooch can only do so much with what he was given. According to millen they should have made the playoffs this year. Those were just unreal expectations this year. Harrington is a flop, its obvious management knew it too, they brought in garcia. Millen is the one who drafted harrington anyways. At least dre bly called it right. There is already speculation that mooch will take over for smith at michigan state.

Yes I heard that too but it started as a what if on a local sports radio talk show. Of course with Izzo being close friends it could very well be a reality.

Lets see since Millin has been here the drafts include two top ranked WR's, a so called top ranked QB, a third WR that isnt all that bad and a RB in Jones who has shown enough promise to keep the defenses honest with our recievers being a big threat if not covered properly. Dont forget we also got Pollard a well respected TE. (Think he is regreting leaving Indy for this mess yet?) Unfortunately he forgot if you dont have a O line what good are they no matter how talented they are.

The Lions future outlook to me is Joey is gone. When Rogers and Williams are FA eligible say good bye to them as well as Jones. Cant blame them when they see the incompetance coming from ownership and the front office. (Wonder how much of Rogers signing bonus the Lions will get back if any?)
