Hall 2006

December 03, 2005 at 05:23AM View BBCode

[color=Black][/color] Every year, I wonder, "does it hurt to guys like Dawson, Sutter, and Rice to watch other guys go in, and having to endure another year of having themselves debated only because they didn't play long enough, or didn't put up enough numbers?" Seriously though, for next year's first timers, the pool seems shallow, did you see that list. It's very debatable.

Even among those, you can find people worthy of the Hall...

I wish I could pull the trigger on the Bulldog, but he only had one dominant season... the one season he won the World Series.

Out of the entire list, despite the fallout at the end of his career, I'd still vote for Albert Belle, because no matter what anyone says, the 90s was his decade. Put anyone's power numbers against his for the course of time that he played... You'll see not very many in that time, if any, measured up.

One major thing that will hurt Belle is that nobody likes him. He will probably never get into the hall of fame

I'm afraid I must agree that Albert Belle is going to have a very difficult time getting in. He is the modern day Ty Cobb, except that Cobb's antics weren't displayed nightly on ESPN, FoxSports, CNN Headline Sports; or chronicled nationally in the USA Today every morning. Albert Belle will get exactly ZERO "he was a pretty good guy" votes, so unless his case is overwhelmingly compelling, he won't make it.

Bonds is a HUGE jerk, probably the most arrogant player in major league history after Rickey Henderson. But his numbers are simply too good to ever keep him out of the Hall, unless they ban him for steroid use. Belle's numbers aren't the same.

Albert Belle had a very short career. As a result, he did not reach any of the "magic numbers". He has 381 HR, 1239 RBI, he hit .295 in an era when everybody hit .295. I can see him going in as a Ralph Kiner type of candidate, and it certainly wouldn't diminish the HOF if he goes in. But honestly, I don't think anyone wants to see him (or hear him) on the speakers' platform at Cooperstown. Who knows? He may go up there and throw baseballs at the crowd.

Clark, Hershiser and Belle should go in. If I had a vote they would get it.
