Rain Delays

April 05, 2006 at 12:53PM View BBCode

I experienced my first rain delay at the LA vs Braves game tonight. I've attended between 100-150 games(Split between SF, Sea, LAA haha, LA), but this was my first rain delay. And it sucked monkey balls. It lasted an hour or so, but mercifully, they didnt call it again in the 8th inning when it was warranted again.

Does the rest of the country regularly experience this? Because here in LA, we usually have 90 degree weather at this time of year.

Memo: To LA

What the fuck?

Yes, I've sat through several rain delays in Washington and Baltimore in the past few years. They suck. Deal with it.

What the [Censored] ?

You're joking, right?

I was at a minor league game here in Columbus, O years ago that was called because there was a tornado warning for our county. Probably don't have tornados in SoCal either?

All of my baseball I've watched in Seattle, minus a handful of minor league games in Tacoma and Portland---and none of those have been delayed.

The Mariners did have a first-ever rainout a couple years ago at Safeco when the roof malfunctioned and wouldn't close.

I was at a Mariners game when it started to pour heavily

That roof is fantastic

I'm biased towards Pac Bell, but my #2 would definately be Safeco

Welcome to the wonderful west coast

One of my favorite quotes is from Ronald Reagan

If the Pilgrams had landed on the West Coast, they'd never had explored east of the Sierras

Not sure if that's exactly word for word, but that's pretty much it. And I stand by my statement that Seattle has the most beautiful summers in the nation

I've been all up and down the East Coast, but never west of the Rockies. I'd like to see the NW coast, but I really have no interest in SoCal. Someday hope to take the kids to Yosemite and work up to Seattle.

I used to live about 30-40 minutes south of Cleveland. When I was a poor college student, and the Jake was selling out every night, we would head up to the stadium when it was raining or the game had just entered a rain delay. Then we'd ask people leaving the stadium for their ticket stubs - it usually only took asking a few people to get them. Or we'd offer to buy them for a couple bucks. The Jake used to let you back into the stadium with just the ticket stub. They have since changed this policy from what I hear regarding re-admittance.

I sat in nearly every area of the Jake that way - for Free.

The other reason why I enjoy rain delays - a lot of people leave the game and the ushers really don't care if you take their seat. So I usually move up to the front row on the 3rd base side, or another prime area.

If this were 1995 that might make sense but . .

The Rangers havent been a bad team for about 10 years now. They just havent had enough pitching to advance in the playoffs or to make the final push for a playoff spot

You haven't been to Petco? That place is beautiful.

Pac-Bell is really nice too, and really fun (then again the only two games I have been to there were against the Dodgers, which I assume is about as fun as they get).

Of course, Dodger Stadium has the best feel of, really, anyplace ever, I love it there.

Angel Stadium is alright, nothing special though (aside from the team!).

What's that loud sucking sound? Oh wait I know, it's the humor being sucked out of Max's post by YAZ's response.

TV is the only access I have to the majors right now. Any current trek to a major league game would at the very least require a 9-hour drive, be it to Atlanta, Tampa, Houston or Arlington.

And in 23 years you've never once said to yourself, "Fuck it, I'm going to make the drive like a man instead of being a little sissy girl, because it is my duty as an American and a baseball fan to watch at least one game in person"?

I was thinking roughly the same thing, but no one says it as diplomatically as FG.

You're awfully sensitive for a fan of a team that has never won a postseason series.

The Rangers arent bad enough these days to be considered among the worst teams in baseball. Maybe if it were your favorite team being talked about you might want to defend them as well. Maybe not.
