Voting to help us decide what to work on next

April 07, 2009 at 04:57PM View BBCode

I'm experimenting with a webstie called ideascale.com. It will allow you to submit ideas for the game, vote on them, and discuss them.

Think of it like a better organized Suggest Enhancements, or merging Suggest Enhancements with Digg.

I'm optimistic that we will use this as a tool going forward to help guide us in what to work on next or which areas of the site/game to change.

If you care to help out with this project, please visit:

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
Will it remember my IP address so I can't vote for my own suggestions 100 times?

I've set it up to require a login to vote. It only takes a second to register.

Also - please feel free to add your own ideas, or ideas you see often in the forums. I added a few ideas just to test out the software.

All I can do is view the topics and descriptions. I see no way to vote or rate anything I assume it is because I am on my iPhone. If there's something I can do to fix it please let me know. Thanks.

I am guessing that is also the case, or perhaps you need to log in first?

Let me try adding another idea to test.

In the left column, there is a box that shows how many votes something got. For example, the first item has 7 votes at the moment. Directly above and below the number 7, you should see links for Vote Up and Vote Down. Do you see those?

Under the description of the idea, there is a link that says Comments.

Do you see those?

I did not get a confirming email (been an hour) and thus can not vote.

I don't see how many votes or anything. It functions just like my phones menus. I'm guessing they are trying to engineer a mobile side that isn't completed yet.

Dwight - when you are on a normal computer, compare what you see on your IPhone vs. your computer and let me know what's wrong.

I've disabled the requirement for email addresses - try it again bart.

I was able to cast a vote the first time I saw this post. Now I cannot cast a vote. It is not accepting my email address and/or password.

Which password are they looking for? My email address password or Sim Dynasty password.

Why not have us log on with our screen name and SD password?

You'll have to signup for a login e to use with this system. Down the road, I might enable single sign on, but it is pricey and will take some technical work.

Not sure what to do - Jughead had a good point about people voting twice, but maybe having people register for a screen name on this system will be confusing.

For now, try registering new.

heck, we can't vote for president without people voting twice or a dozen times. If people want to register a dozen times on that site or simdynasty it would be awful hard to stop them. Hopefully people just stay honest on this. I imagine if you look at a list of who voted it should be evident if someone is cheating.

Yeah, the problem is that before I required a login, I didn't have an idea of who voted for what. Now I have a list.

I'm going to let this get to about 50-100 ideas, then I'll take a crack at creating better categories. They are too broad IMO.

I like it thus far, though I woudl recommend separate pages for separate categories.

THere are links along the left hand side for each category, you can view all Ideas in that category. After we get about 50 ideas, I'm going to redefine the categories and organize it a bit more.

I think most of the ideas on the list deserve to be done at some point, but it is just a matter of you guys helping me see what you really want to see next.

a nice idea. i found it easy to use. i also like how this method ensures that good ideas don't get lost inside long threads.

Very easy to use tool. I like it.

If this has already been said, my apologies. The site uses cookies or some such to keep me from voting twice. So although I could go to another computer (rather, use a different IP), it's not likely to occur, so I think the way it is set up now is sufficient for our needs, in terms of voting. The point about categorization is a good one, and as we see what types of suggestions are made, it might help structure the categories so they all have a similar number of ideas.

Yeah, I'd like to see categories sooner rather than later-its beginning to get unwieldy.

This is a cool idea.

Just tried it out and had no problems.

Ok, I've done my best to come up with more categories.

I'm trying to keep Game Site Changes to anything that doesn't require a change with the backend code. Obviously, you won't always know which changes those are.

For example, making the league leaders bold on the player cards will require some code to be run at the end of each season to set this up - otherwise, the database would get killed everytime a player card is loaded.

If you have suggestions on the categories, let me know.
