Another thing that annoys me about sports announcers

October 11, 2009 at 09:25AM View BBCode

How many times will announcers point out that an interception is the receiver's fault, when the quarterback throws behind the receiver, and, via athleticism, the receiver manages to slow down, change direction and at least get a hand on the ball before it careens into a defender's hands.

(Referencing Colt McCoy's interception that was thrown behind Shipley during last night's Texas-Colorado game... which I am watching on ESPN now.)

Personally, I prefer my sports announcers to be of the non-biting my ass variety.

Well they basically never point out that it's the receiver's fault for pretty clearly not running their route properly.

Baseball announcers who think that bunts and sacrifice flies are the only way to score runs. Those are the worst.

If we are going to be serious about this, then I have to say my least favorite is the home team announcers that go over the top for any big play. Look, it is fine to be excited, expected even, but let's control it a little. Just because a wide receiver made a huge grab to win the game doesn't mean its time to act like Jesus just exploded from inside the football like it was a cocoon harbinger of the apocalypse.

yeah, John Sterling (Yankees radio) is one of the worst I've heard as far as getting excited. I don't mind "THEEE YANKEES WIN" but if I have to hear "A Tex message" one more time.....

I stopped listening to the Astros on the radio after about a half season of that dolt.

Us White Sox fans have it pretty bad, with the Hawk Harrelson. Put it in the BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK, YES!!! Er, Hawk, the Sox are down 12-2, and they're eight games out with 3 to play.

Isn't it "put it on the board"?

The Tribe's Tom Hamilton is Ron Santo and Harrelson combined in terms of an over active sense of enthusiam. Every call is as if it were game 7 of the World Series for him.

Sorry, (Eric), you are correct. I know not what I was thinking. I am still dizzy from the monumental failure that was the 2009 season.

redskins game during the first half: "As you can see, carolina is winning the time of posession, but that time of posession hasnt translated into points. See, time of posession only really matters if it translates into getting more points."

So basically if you have the highest time of posession and also the most points, you win the game?

Tom Hamilton also calls basketball, and he calls three pointers "triples".

That is pretty censored annoying.

The "triple" thing doesn't bother me with announcers -- it's certainly better than calling it a "trey."

I would guess it was "tre", not "trey"...

We should just get rid of the three-pointer.
Artistik

October 12, 2009 at 07:33PM View BBCode

Beyond half court it should be a four-pointer. Now THAT would lead to some exciting shots.
Tyles

We could make them one-pointers -- then people would stop taking them.

(Except Antoine Walker.)
