why?

January 17, 2010 at 03:46AM View BBCode

does dan dierdorf have a job in television?

he said, when describing the colts passing attack, that peyton manning was an equal opportunity passer (that's why he has black receivers, I guess), AND that his receivers know that "if it's their day in the barrel" they're going to get the football.

he's either never heard the "day in the barrel" joke, or he didn't get it.

or he's an idiot.

he ain't as bad as mccarver (no one is), but he's a close 2nd.

The day I hear a football commentator who isn't an idiot is the same day I win the lottery.

Gus Johnson sometimes calls football for CBS, and Gus Johnson is the best. I also love it when FOX brings back Pat Summerall to call the Cotton Bowl; that dude is the Dick Clark of commentators. And Fowler and Herbstreit do a nice job. I like them, anyway.

Actually, Dierdorf is great, too, in a drunk-all-the-time-uncle sort of way.

He's no Dan Beerdorf.

Moose and Aikman do a good job (and I don't think that because I'm a cowboy fan). 3 of the top color guys of all time are Cowboys: Troy, Moose, and Dandy Don.

(of course, they are balanced by the dreadful Emmitt Smif and the unlistenable Michael Irvin, and the idiotically bombastic Neon.)

(White Cowboy announcers = good. Black Cowboy announcers = bad. Got it.)

I was going to go with a "color guys / colored guys" joke, but decided against it.

Damn it, wish I'd thought of that construct.

I know that you're just trying to be "funny", but I find your comments offensive.

Just because you see racism in everything, doesn't mean anyone else does.

What you've said here is racist and you should be ashamed.

Racist = pointing out racism.

On the flip cracker side, Aikman and Moose are godawful as broadcasters. We're talking functionally retarded.

i like aikman, myself. i'm too young to remember meredith but all the old-timers swear he was great. i've never seen irvin, sanders or smith do colour.

My favorite color guy is actually Phil Simms. I'll admit I haven't heard him as much this past season but he tends to give decent insights without constantly overtalking the game and isn't always referring to his own playing days.

The worst is Tony Serigusa (sp) although he's just on the sidelines a feel a vein pop in my forehead whenever he even comes on the screen.

Oh god, Tony Siragusa is easily in the Mariotti/Bayless/Stephen A 'Blight Upon Civilization' category. I desperately hate Tony Siragusa, he loves to do that 'take off the dress' shtick whenever he talks about a football player he feels isn't mindless violent enough for his tastes. Ugh.

Getting the 49er games locally means getting a lot of the #3 announcing team, and I have to say that Matt Vasgersian, who I first noticed in the MLB The Show series, has really grown on me.

I think in 40 years we are going to put him #2 behind Vin Scully.
