Bringing embarrassment to a new level

June 07, 2010 at 06:00PM View BBCode

I was at the orioles game the other day, orioles were down 8-0 at the end of the 6th, so we decided that we were ashamed enough, so we would go ahead and go home early. But on the way out we decided to stop by "The Orioles Store". I should make sure that you understand that its right there in the warehouse in rightfield, its inside the stadium...

Anyway, when I go into the orioles store, the VERY first thing I see is a display selling JOHNATHAN PAPPLEBON jerseys, Red Sox hats, Red Sox flags, and Red Sox signs. WTF??!?!?! I actually felt the need to go back and check the sign outside, and to make sure that I was in fact IN Baltimore, INSIDE orioles stadium INSIDE THE ORIOLES STORE. I mean, thats what its called, The [color=orange]Orioles[/color] store. I strongly considered picking us up 4 red sox hats, 4 papplebon jerseys, 4 red sox signs, and 4 red sox flags and going back into the stadium and rooting for my new favorite team, since obviously the orioles dont want my fandom anymore. Not to mention maybe I could watch my damn team win for once. (but i mean, its the redsox. Yankees? maybe.)

I took a picture of this on my phone for proof. God, what a disaster. I may go over to the orioles forums just to stir something up, becuase this is absolutely ridiculous.

PICS OR IT'S NOT REAL!

was this during the boston series?

(this is free enterprise, you know. those games draw a lot of Boston fans, because they can't get tickets to games in boston, where, as an added bonus, the place smells like 100 years of shit. anyway, they put that stuff in the store there so they can sell it to those Boston fans. because, you know. why not?)

Don't do the "free enterprise" thing. It's the Orioles Store. That's a fucked up trick to play on the fans you have left.

1) Sink into neverending mediocrity.
2) Turn your park into a friendlier place for visiting fans than it is for the home fans.
3) Make lots of money.

It's a free country, and they can do that if they so desire, but a team with management that's actually interested in, you know, cultivating fans respects the fact that the team is more than just a business, it's also a civic institution, and they act accordingly. They deserve to be blasted.

they could just close the store, i reckon.

Ill try to get a pic online sometime this week, cant do it now.

But yeah, I wanted to go to the only oriole friendly place in the stadium (since every fan there was redsox fans, and their players basically pooped on our scoreboard), and I was basically spit on right there on my BJ Surhoff jersey.

Yes, I never said the orioles couldnt do that. And this is a free market, but the fact of the matter is that doing things like that is NOT smart business practice. You get a few more bucks at the expense of embarrassing yourself, and losing the few fans you have left. It honestly made me not want to go to the games anymore. I mean, I got the Nationals right here. Hell, they are closer than orioles stadium anyway.

TBH, i think about the only thing keeping me an orioles fan is my dad's season tickets, acus his tickets are pretty baller.

I mean, the nats may suck, but when you go there, the fans are Nats fans, the stadium sells nats stuff, and the owner probably cares about something other than the bottom line.

i mean, seriously. there is no point in fretting about the orioles.

they're tanking.

just as your code bits in simd are trying to win (they don't know you want them to tank) so the players in baltimore want to, and are trying to, win. the GM (or whatever mcphail calls himself) has set the team up to fail. to get the high picks.

the folks at the orioles store are simply selling things that someone wants to buy. i guess during the yankees series they sell yankees stuff. maybe they sell phillies stuff when the phillies come to town during interleague play.

if they can't stay in business selling just the orioles stuff, then what do you want them to do? close? or do you want to pay higher prices for tickets, and have the club subsidize the "orioles store." then they can sell only orioles stuff.

(if they have only orioles stuff in there, that doesn't mean you will buy any more of it than you buy now. the orioles stuff is in there. you can buy it. why do you care if they have the other stuff?)

I absolutely want them to rake in all the simoleons they can in the stadium built with public money. Fukk the fan base. Fukk old geezers like me who supported the team for decades. Money, baby, that's all that matters.

I have not paid for a MLB ticket since the '94(?) strike when they canceled spring training. And I never will. I used to go to 4-5 games a year. Now, I go if someone offers me free tickets.

Fukk those greedy bassards. I'd rather go to my local HS field and watch those kids play for the joy and competition.

Way to take a stand and boycott MLB ...

Now, I go if someone offers me free tickets.

... unless someone else pays for the ticket.

I'm not boycotting, I just ain't paying for tickets.

Why do you attempt to make it look like I said something that I did not say?

Here, learn something:

When you go to a game with a ticket someone else paid for, you're still buying a ticket, you're just doing it by proxy. Now, if you only went to games when someone gave you a ticket that they stole from the box office, that would be taking a stand.

I buy stuff when I'm there, food, drink, etc. I'm not taking a stand, just making a personal decision.

The $$$ they make compared to the $$$ I make is too much for me to fork over for ducats. Fukk 'em.

It is awesome that you're willing to pay $20 for hot dogs and beer but not $15 for a ticket. You are the best.

I'm the opposite, I go to half a dozen games a season but I refuse to buy things in the stadium. It's highway robbery.

tyles:
Hot dogs are about 5 bucks, and I don't drink beer at the park. I drink a 5 dollah coke.

And I pay $5-10 for parking.

And I don't care what you think of me.

Always remember that...

I think I speak for us all when I say may Armando Galarraga be caught in bed with two Puerto Rican rent boys and a pound of blow.

Indeed, the only thing worse than Armando Galarraga is the tyrannical Jew cabal that lords over Major League Baseball.

and here i thought i was the only one who found it amusing that happy was decrying his stadium selling enemy merchandise while wearing an orioles jersey emblazoned with the name of a guy who is most known for his time as an enemy player. hugs.

I guess. It's not like this is Willie Mays - it's BJ Surhoff. He's mostly famous for being not famous at all, not even a little bit.
