salary caps work

July 09, 2010 at 05:43PM View BBCode

Without any salary caps, LeBron (and his crew) would have focused his attention only on major markets. Because of salary caps, Miami was able to beat out the larger markets.

Can you imagine in today's baseball climate the best players (for example ARod and Teixeira) considering and choosing to play for the Marlins?

Miami as some sort of poster child for the small market? You're kidding. Tell me you're kidding.

If the Marlins were run better, I could see that. There's a strong Hispanic presence in Miami, the climate is nice. I could see many Latino players wanting to play there.

Without a salary cap, the Knicks might have offered LeBron $50M per year.

So Miami is a small market now ??

I guess this doesn't bode well for the big market teams in Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City or Memphis then .

There is also the fact that the NBA salary cap is a freakin' joke anyway .

Florida also has the "no state income tax" benefit, besides the weather, the ocean and the women in South Beach .

if there were no max salary they wouldve gone to different teams because they wouldve been offered way more money.

Salary caps absolutely work in improving the quality of the product on the field.

care to elaborate, since I can throw up the NFL and even NCAA football (their "salary" are the scholarships) as prime examples of what a Salary cap can do to improve the overall quality of the game.

Between points A and B is a gaping chasm several miles wide. Maybe you can bridge it but....I doubt it.

Boston and Baltimore are prime examples of what starting your city with the letter B can do to improve the overall population of your city.

Fine, then. Prove that salary caps don't work.

Um, I'm not sure you're clear on how this works. When you say

Salary caps absolutely work in improving the quality of the product on the field.

then the onus kind of falls to you to defend that statement. Nobody here has made the statement that you're asking people to prove.

i believe he must be obliquely referencing the fabled and crunchy and highly oversold "parity" that (arguably) exists in the good, old eN eFf of eL.

(salary caps of this sort benefit one group. the plantation owners.)

you sure about that?

Now let'sbe honest, even if we were to all agree that a Salary cap is a good thing there is no way the player's union would ever agree to it, which does make this argument silly. Can we at least agree about that?

Now that we have those awesome city boards, I thought sports talk was the new off-topic.

I'm not sure what else to say, my constant messages asking you guys not to do this seem to go ignored.
