Mariners Mocking
April 15, 2011 at 09:59PM View BBCode
I know it's not as much fun without some of the former inmates but I was checking out boxscores this afternoon and noticed that the Mariners cleanup hitter in last nights game was their DH - A. Kennedy.
Strange I thought, I hadn't heard of a slugging prospect named Kennedy in the Mariners system, but no it's [url=http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kennead01.shtml]Adam Kennedy[/url] .
That's right the Mariners DH and cleanup hitter is a middle infielder with a career OPS of .717 and 71 homers in almost 5,000 at bats.
I mean even the Mets can do better than that.

Of course he lost a bet, why else do you think he's managing the Mariners .

according to Lou Pinella, Jr Griffey once saved baseball in Seattle. who will save it again?
(because, jesus. it is the very height of grotesque.)

Austin Romine or Slade Heathcott after the Yankees deal them for King Felix.

Well they can't really talk about the RedSox as the team of the century anymore so yeah the "Hernandez to the Yankees" is easy.
The great thing is they can pull it out at anytime and spend 5 minutes showing us how much they know, it's like a sportscaster's wet dream.

the mariners can get brett gardner in that right? if they insist? i mean, it did draw the walk last season. that was enought to get them to pay the chone all that money.

(truly though, don't they have more seasons with felix before he walks. if they wait, they can get ARod back with all that money for a farewell. they need to wait until he can't hit anymore, of course.)
((fully realize it may be quite a while before this happens. but chone would be better on DEEE-FENCE right?))

I had low expectations and the team is playing to them so far.
At least Michael Pineda is awesome.

Today the Mariners decided to give up on the $13.3333 million owing to Milton Bradley and release him.
Bradley's OPS of .669 this year was actually an improvement over his .641 mark in 2010 but that high level production wasn't enough to keep him in the Mariners long term plans, assuming of course that they actually have any long term plans.
The Mariners also waived Ryan Lagerhans, whose OPS of .664 was much more affordable at $525K then Bradley's but still wasn't enough to keep him with "The Big Team".
At least the M's still have that whole [url=http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6986]"Chone Figgins thing"[/url], and his sub .600 OPS, going for them at the bargain basement price of only $27.5 million over the next three years .

chone figgins is so blindingly awesome, it doesn't even matter what his ops is.
(seriously, chone is just the best example in the world of what do you want to overpay for. folks talk about teams overpaying for home runs or rbi or whatever. with chone they paid for the
walk. yes, ladies and gentlemen, the MFCS
base........on.........balls. giggle, giggle, and giggle.

And yet the little mother
ucker isn't even walking, the one thing he was supposed to do. I hate that miserable little imp.

it is kind of a thing to recognize why they walk.
mickey mantle got walked because they feared him, likewise, barry bonds and some noteable others.
chone got walked because he was a little dwarf with an invisible strike zone, and, finally, bobby abreu just got fed up and pulled him out and said,
"hey, you don't even have a strke zone, and you can't even hit the ball anywhere. so just take." chone should be kicking back twenty percent of his money back to abreu, like a commission.

I must say I'm impressed that the Mariners are at .500.
Their offense is simply dreadful other than Smoak, even Ichiro looks dodgy, but the pitching has been lights out.
I can't see them continuing to win if the hitting stays at this level but at least they are credible, which is more than I thought they would be.
Chone is absolutely the worst contract in baseball, worse than Werth, worse than Vernon Wells, worse than Gary Mathews Jr., which is saying something.

I was on Yahoo Sports and checked the [url=http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/sea/roster]Mariners roster[/url], they list Figgins salary as N/A - I'm guessing that's acuz Jack Zduriencik pays them not to publish it.
